3rd Trimester

What are you going to wear in the hospital?

I know I'll be wearing a gown during delivery...

I am wondering what I will need to wear for the other day or two I am there... to make it comfortable to breastfeed easily but also to look and feel presentable when people stop by to visit.

Also, if there's anything other than clothes you're taking for yourself, I'd like to hear, to make sure I remember the necessities/things that will be nice to have.

Re: What are you going to wear in the hospital?

  • I'm bringing a pair of black yoga pants and a nursing tank and will have my robe, maybe a hoodie so I don't have to wear my robe in bed. I'm planning on wearing what I wore to the hospital home. DH asked me again last night if I'd packed my bag... he's awfully anxious! I feel like if I pack it, it's a guarantee that she's not coming out on her own and I"ll be induced in two weeks.

  • I had both my babies in the summer. I wore yoga shorts and tanks tops. I did not BF DD. I did however BF DS so I did end up wearing the yucky hospital gowns as it was easier to BF in them.
  • I'm taking a light robe, yoga pants, nursing tank (2), comfy socks, plain tank top, and a t-shirt.  I get hot really easily so I'm planning on wearing nursing tank and tank and if I do get chilly then I'll throw on the light robe!
  • I'm bringing two pairs of sweatpants, nursing tanktops, and a zip-front hoodie. I'm going for comfort and not really looks, I don't care if I look like a slob - I will have just had a baby.
  • Make sure you bring pants that you really don't care that much about incase your pad leaks.  I would hate to ruin my favorite pants because of an accident!

  • Since I don't have a lot of maternity clothes that fit me right now, I didn't want to pack any of them in my hospital bag. I packed this morning and I put a pair of fleece pj pants and a pair of comfy yoga pants. I also packed a larger shirt that if very comfy to probably wear the day I go home, otherwise I'll wear it while I'm in the hospital. I have only bought one nursing tank, so I'm bringing that and another regular tank top that has a built in bra and hopefully I can make do between the two for nursing. Other than that, I brought a few pairs of socks and underwear although I hear they give you mesh underwear there.
I packed some Lanolin, a Sudoku book to pass the time if needed, the baby book so we can get foot prints and hand prints. Shampoo, conditioner, a brush, toothbrush/paste, light makeup, lotion, deodorant. I packed 2 differet newborn outfits for going home, socks, a hat, a swaddling blanket, and a regular blanket to put over LO in the carseat.

I think "that's all" lol. I am thinking about bringing my boppy. I told DH he should pack a change of clothes and maybe his bathing suit if needed while I'm in  labor if I'm in the tub or shower or if I need help showering after delivery. He will be going home to check on our cats so if we need anything else, he can grab it but I'm sure I overpacked!

  • I am taking my yoga pants and a couple of DHs button down shirts I wont match at all but I dont care

  • I heard that wearing pants after sucks because they come to do a few internal checks so you have to keep taking them off. For this reason I got a black stretchy nightgown: black to hide any leaks and the neckline is low enough to breastfeed.
  • With dd I wore the hospital gowns the whole time. They may not be the best looking/comfy, but I did not ruin any of my clothing. I will do the same this time.
  • I'll probably be wearing their gowns, but I'm also bringing black yoga pants (apparently a popular choice), a nursing tank, a nursing bra, a robe, slippers,  and a t-shirt, along with socks and my personal care items. Oh and flip flops. Not sure if I'll actually where them but I want the option.
  • i will wear the hospital robe.   probably take my own jammies for after, a robe, slippers, toothpaste, contacts, toothbrush, comb, my own pillow, boppy, something to wear home (probably yoga pants and a sweater), camera, cell phone, pump, video camera, laptop (although hubby will or can bring that later).   outfits for baby.  magazine or book to read, candy to suck on/eat.
  • I plan to just wear the hospital gown when I check in and throughout delivery. Today I bought a sleepshirt to wear after LO is born:

It just seems comfy and I've heard lots of ppl say that pants are not that comfortable afterward (esp if I had to end up with a c-section), plus it buttons up the front so easy for BFing.

  • I bought a couple nursing nightgowns from Kohl's when they were having the buy 1 get 1 free sale last week.  I'd rather not wear pants because it's just too much work to put them on now at times so I can just see after having a baby it being even more work and if my pad leaks, I'd rather not ruin my pants.

I feel the same way! Kiss my you know what if you judge my appearance 12 hours after I had my baby!

I am will probably bring a few pairs of lounge pants, a few nursing tanks, slipper socks, regular socks and a jacket. I will probably go home in my sweatpants and sweatshirt (its not a fashion contest) Although I have heard a few women mention their blow dryers kudos to them my hair will be in a braid the whole time!

I'm glad to hear this.  This was my plan and after reading the other posts I was getting worried.

Almost this exactly.  I have one pair of sweatpants, I just ordered my nursing tanks and a few pair of socks.  For going home...I'll wear whatever I wore to the hospital.

  • What size nursing tanks did you ladies get?  I was an XS/S before pregnancy. Was thinking that mediums would do the job but im not sure. My boobs were 34B's, now they are 36C's. I'm sure that would matter when selecting a size too, especially when they may get bigger when my milk comes in.
