N woke up with it this morning....a whopping 4 days before we are supposed to leave for Thanksgiving.  It seems to be pretty mild so far, Motrin brought his fever down and he's perked up a bit (is this a calm before a storm?)

please please please please please don't let the rest of us get it. PLEASE.  Universe, are you listening to me???

Re: Flu-how long did it last?

  • Oh no!!  Good luck!!  I'll cross my fingers.  Wash your hands a ton and use the hand sanitizer.  My hands were raw by the end of our bout with it, but I never got it (or never got it badly enough to notice).

Depends on the person and everything else.  In our house, DD#1 had a fever for 7 full days and was exhausted for at least another 7, but she did perk up with Motrin/Tylenol for most of the days.  She started out very mild, spiked a high fever on day two, then was down to next to no fever for the next two days - like 99ish - and then spiked back up to 103-104 again on day 5-7.  DH had 4 days of fever and another 2 or so before he was back on his feet with only one day of high fever and the rest were 99-100.  DD#2 never even had a fever and probably had 3-4 days of not quite herself and uncomfortable.  Hard to say exactly given her age.  FWIW, DH did have Tamiflu (as did I).  The girls did not.  But DH and DD#2 had pneumonia back in May and neither was hit as hard as DD#1.  Also, the girls and I had already had our seasonal flu shots and DH hadn't.  None of what's coming out about who it's hitting worst seemed true for our family.  Everyone is different.

  • For us the fever/aches was 3-5 days, then the cough was constant for a week, and lingered occasionally for another 2 wks.

  • DS had a fever 5-6 days and took a few days to recover.
  • DS had a fever for 2 days (101-102) with body aches/chills and sensitivities, followed by a low grade fever for 2 more days with a runny nose and cough. It lasted a week.

Mine started with a low grade fever and body aches/chills and the fever did not get too high. lasted 4 days but i had absolutely no energy.

  • I had DD started on Tamilflu 12-15 hours from when her fever started. Fever started on Thursday at about 5pm. She was better (fever free and tylenol/motrin free within 24 hours. No fever at all since that Friday. The pedi said we caught it really early. When treated quickly it can be a 24 hour illness.
