For example- your play room is in your basement or 2nd floor, when did you let dc play unattended?
We have a "loft" on the second floor of our home. Also on the second floor is dd's bedroom as well as the (2) guest rooms and bathrooms. Our bedroom, main living areas, kitchen etc are all on the first floor.
I plan to turn our loft into dd's playroom. It has great built-in book cases with cabinets for lots of storage. She's receiving quite a bit of toys (play kitchen etc) that I would ideally love to set up in there. (For pics, click on my googlepages bio... it's old but you'll get the idea.) I just can't imagine WHEN I'll actually let her play up there without me. Of course, it's totally childproof and I could install a baby gate to contain her in there (there is no door.) It's also very open so I can hear everything going on even when I'm downstairs.
I *know* she's too young now... will she still be too young at 18m? 24m? When did you let your dc play in their room or playroom without you?
Re: If your "play room" is NOT on the main floor of your house...
Sounds like our setup is very similar to yours, and I'm nowhere near ready to let her play alone up there. She's just still into putting everything in her mouth and seems to always find the things she should not be playing with. Sorry, that might not be real helpful, but just thought I'd weigh in based on my 21 month old.
Joseph doesn't have a specific playroom. (Of course, I haven't checked to see if FIL is still alive this morning....fingers crossed...maybe Joseph will have a playroom soon.)
He plays in his room if we're upstairs, in the kitchen or living room if we're downstairs, depending on which room we are in. He's too tricky to leave alone. And he's climbed over or taken down gates, so I wouldn't trust that.

No, that's very helpful!!!!!!! I'm having fun dreams about redecorating that room and turning it into her playroom... then part of me thinks it's a massive waste of time bc she's no where near being allowed to play there by herself. So I do appreciate your input!!!
I guess maybe a video monitor would be helpful. I always thought they were a waste of money but I can see where I would use it to watch her play...
Okay good
I am excited for the day that we can make our loft a cute playroom for her too!
