Baby Needs Luggage?

This probably seems like a dumb question but before the baby came DH and I did a big "random piece of luggage from college/Target/that one weekend trip where you need a new bag/etc" purge and now only have the bags we always use to travel with.  So it occurs to me that I have nothing for DD.  What would you do?  Buy something that matches the set you and DH have?  Which is basically a carry-on that is expandable and would be too big for her at this point but she could easily grow into it.  Or buy a cute duffel from Target or something to get through this holiday season?

Re: Baby Needs Luggage?

  • We've traveled with DD several times and just put all of her clothes in with ours.  At this point in time, no seperate luggage is necesssary.  Besides, with lugging the carseat, PNP, stroller, etc....the rental car won't have room, LOL!

  • I would have bought her a cute/fun pink suitcase. But I couldn't find one (ffor less than $100) before our trip to the beach. So I bought her a cute pink duffle bag. I am keeping my eye out for a suitcase for our next trip.

  • When we traveled with DS he needed a bigger bag than we did!!  We only went to the shore about 2 hours away but between diapers and bath stuff and feeding stuff and everything else, he needed a pretty big bag.  Not a whole suitcase but a big vera bradley weekend bag.

  • I am considering getting a bigger suitcase to put both my and DS's things in.  Since we would be checking luggage on flights, I'd rather pay the fee once for the two of us than twice for two small bags.
  • When we travel DH and I both bring two large suitcases and pack DS's things in with ours.  We've traveled internationally and had to bring food, formula, water, diapers, etc. and this worked well with us.

Like pp said - if it is just the three of you traveling remember that that leaves you and DH to carry all of the suitcases, stroller, carry-ons, etc.  For us...we'd rather bring the least amount of suitcases as possible.  Of course that makes remaining under the weight limit interesting, but we manage pretty well.

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies.  We normally travel for the holidays via car so we don't have to worry about bag fees this time but it's an excellent thing to keep in mind.  We might do a test packing run to figure out what we'd even take to the ILs for Thanksgiving and see where we come out on luggage.
