Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Anyone in a mother's group?

Just wondering if anyone has joined a IRL mother's group?

Are you having a good experience?

I think I probably should...I've been feeling kind of lonely lately.  I work PT and my job is really the only time I get out and I'm not even really happy at that right now. Even to get out with other mom's may be a good idea.

I feel like all I do lately is housework on my days off, hang with DS (which I do love to do), work and help out with my mom who has early on set Alzheimers.

There are several mom groups near me, but one in particular looks good, it's private and they make a big deal of wanting it to be a good fit, no gossip, drama etc. Which is exactly what I want.

I'm  having trouble getting myself to just engage and inquire about it, I've been feeling kind of down, probably cause I'm a little lonely, what a cycle...

Ugh, does PPD hit later on sometimes?

  • check out meetup.com. I joined a group from there & have been so happy with it. I have made some good friends too!

  • yup, that's where I found it. Thanks. :)
  • Once you go a few times, you will feel more involved & comfortable with it, at least thats how I felt about it. Mine even does mom's nights & a book club which are fun too. Hope it helps:)

  • I'm in a MOPS group which is great and a few of our local bumpies do lots of play dates too.  MOPS is international, so there may be one near you!

  • PPD can definitely set in later.  My BF wasn't diagnosed until her DD was over a year old.  Please talk to your OB.  The mother's group sounds like a great idea too!  I'd love to do that.  GL!

  • I'm in a MOPS group that meets at my church.  A lot of the women who go don't go to the church, but just come for MOPS.  It's actually really nice, because the kids go to the nursery during our meetings, and we have breakfast, so you get a couple mornings a month where you can sit and chat and have a relaxed breakfast and coffee with other moms.  I thought it was going to be hokey at first, but I actually really enjoy it.

I think we're all a little leery of being judged, so...everybody kind of tries really hard not to say anything negative!

  • i'm having similar issues/problems.  Good luck!
  • I joined one through Meetup.com. The first few meetups I was a little nervous but once I got to know some of the other families we fit right in. DD loves playing with the other babies and I have met some wonderful people.

It is so nice having a circle of friends who "get it"

  • yes, PPD can hit anytime in the first year,. Call your OB.

I joined a moms group when I was home with Kate and it saved my sanity.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
