2nd Trimester

Skin Care Regime

Pregnancy is doing horrible things to my skin.  Sad  I've read that it isn't safe to use some types of acne medication.  Does anyone know more details on this?  What I'm wanting to use right now: Proactive face wash, regular toner, then Clean and Clear Persa-Gel 10 (10% Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Medication).  Is there a particular ingredient that I should be looking for in acne medication?

 TIA!

Re: Skin Care Regime

  • I can't really help you with ingredients to look for but I use the clinique 3-step program for combination skin and my skin has been great this pregnancy (knock on wood!) I also drink tons of water. Sometimes I'm too lazy to wash my face at night so I use those moistened oil of olay face wipes to take off my makeup. Good luck!

  • Just FYI: My dermatologist is really against toners and the Proactive system in general. He says it just aggravates your skin (I tried it before that and didn't notice any change). Also, 10% BP is really high and may just irritate your skin. More isn't always better.

I had just gotten my skin under control (finally at the age of 26) right before TTC and had to go off the drugs I was on when we started. Fortunately, my skin has held up pretty well except for a once a month breakout. I haven't been doing anything except using my Alpha Cleanser (bought at my dermatologist's office). Unfortunately, my back and chest are another story and I don't know what to do about them. :(

  • I use a natural facial cleanser from Trader Joes, witch hazel toner, and purpose moisturizer.  Much cheaper and more effective than the Aveda system I was on.

  • www.acne.org.  This is the only skin care regime that has ever worked for my skin - and I have tried literally everything (pro-activ, murad, you name it).  I still use, but I have cut back on the BP to spot treatments.
  • I was having skin problems in 1st tri into 2nd. I started using cetaphil face wash and lotion, and my skin is looking really good now. This stuff has very little ingredients and I am loving it! I thought I was going to need an acne wash, but this did the trick for me. I think my pg hormones were reacting weird to products with too many ingredients.
  • I have managed to control the crazy breakouts using cetaphil and refined coconut oil from whole foods and for the huge zits I use lavender oil. I still get little problem areas here and there but its much better.
  • I just make sure I take off my makeup every night with lotion. I wash my face once in a while with a bar of neutrogena soap for acne prone skin...but I mostly don't. My skin has gotten much better since 1st tri, let's hope it stays that way...
