Is it just me, or do all the houses seem kind of the same on the inside? Most of the episodes I've seen, the houses are typically newer, LARGE and decorated pretty nicely. Is having a nice home one of the criteria for the show??

I never thought of most of them as decorated nicely, more as McMansions with sparse furniture because they overbought on house.

I've noticed that too.
Also, they all seem to have relatively open floor plans.

That's so funny, I have thought all of these things as well. Maybe it is not their real home? It is staged? There are A LOT of similarities in these homes....

Patty, I agree. I guess by "nicely" I meant more modern/trendy style, not necessarily ample furniture...I agree, they do seem rather bare with furnishings.
If my home was going to be on national television, it would be staged to the nines...
Me too...but these are people who have no problem airing their dirty laundry on air. I mean, they show the couples fighting and the kids hitting/kicking/spitting on them on national television. Their houses should be the least of their worries!

The camera crew needs space to move around to film. I'm now wondering if they choose houses that have more space and are more sparsely furnished so that they can film better or if the families are instructed to clear some things out of the way before she comes so that they can film a little easier.
I noticed that too. In fact, I even made a smug (jealous?) comment to DH one day that "I don't feel bad for them one bit, look at their freaking house!"
