So we are home and rested from the hospital! Overall a really great delivery!
Monday I had a checkup and my NP said I was dilated to 1 cm, about 50% effaced. We made an appointment for a week later and she said "I'm pretty sure I'll see you then." Little did we know...
Tuesday I started having some contractions, randomly spaced, but decent contractions. With our first daughter I had a day of false labor, so I figured this was the same thing. Especially with it being almost a week before the due date. But later in the afternoon I was still having contractions. Finally during dinner I let DH know that they were sticking around, and we started tracking them. They went from being sort of painful to hard to talk during. We put DD to bed (luckily Grandma has been in town and staying with us for a week, so she was there to stay with DD). Around 9 the contractions started getting closer together and pretty painful. All of the sudden they got closer to 3 or 4 minutes apart, and DH went into panic mode! We called L&D and they said to come on down!
DH flew on the freeway, we were at the hospital by about 10:30 pm. Got all checked in, was dilated to 4 cm upon check in. I was having a lot of pain, so I asked for the epidural as soon as they thought it was okay. Got into the room, got the epidural around 1:30 am. They checked again and I was up to 5 cm. I was actually kind of relieved, because I was looking forward to a bit of rest after the epidural kicked in. They came back in about 3 am, and shocked us by letting us know I was fully dilated! Holy cow! The midwife said the baby was only about 0 station, so we could wait for a little bit so I could rest up some more. They came back about 4 and got all set up. At 4:20 am we started pushing, and four contractions/11 minutes later, Penelope Lee arrived!
She was born at 7 lb 7 oz, 20.5" long. It was nice because they cleaned up the room and let us all just cuddle and nurse for almost an hour. Then they took her for her bath and measurements and stuff, and a few hours later they moved us to our mom & baby room.
Penny has been a great baby, eating every 4 hours or so. Nursing is a lot easier this time around! Amelia is super excited to be a big sister! The introductions went well. Thanks for all the advice and pointers on gifts for the siblings, it went really well!
