...Sigh...
What I really wanted to hear my doctor say is that now that my surgery is done, I have a really good chance of getting pregnant on my first cycle.
Instead he told me that I had a large number of follicles on CD3, and while I don't have PCOS, I might have egg quality issues and/or have an increased risk of overstimming. I know he has to tell me about the possibilities, but it was NOT what I wanted to hear. He also said that I had a 40-50% chance of getting pregnant with the cycle. I was really expecting him to say at least 60%.
He kept saying that was going to be an interesting patient... I don't want to be interesting, I want a baby! Yesterday that goal seemed a lot closer. I really felt like I would be pregnant in February, but now I just see all the things that can go wrong between now and then.
Thanks for listening to the rant!
Love you gals!
Re: IVF Consult was less than stellar
I am sorry your IVF appointment did not go as-well as you wished.. ((HUGS))
Sorry that you are disappointed
Appointments that don't go the way we want can be so frustrating.

I don't get it - egg quality issues just b/c you have a high AFC?
Also - are 40-50% chances just his average success rates in your age group, or do you think they're diminished, and if so, did he say why?
I hope everything goes well with this cycle and you get your BFP! 40-50% is a great prognosis!

The 40-50% chance is pretty much the standard success rate for IVF - higher if you are younger and lower if you are older. You can go to SART and check out the specific success rates for your clinic and your age. Generally, the only way to have a higher success rate is by using CGH or MA (genetic testing on day 5 blasts) which will bring the success rate up into the 70% range. But only a handful of clinics are doing this now.
Don't be discouraged by the numbers. IVF is a numbers game and even the healthiest couple can take 2 or 3 IVF tries to have success. But just remember that the great majority of people do have success eventually. GL!
