Since I'm now classified this way, at least by my OB, I figure it's time to figure out what the differences are.
I know they ran a bunch of bloodwork at his request, so he'll have all of that when I see him on Wednesday, but what will the appointment entail, do you think?
Re: High Risk Ladies...what to expect from MFM?
I missed your post - why are you being considered high risk? I am assuming what goes on would be different depending on the dx.
For me, I am just seen a zillion times a week with a zillion blood draws and a zillion u/s and NST. The first appointment went over the risks of pre-e to me and the baby, what she expected as far as going full term, what I should be on the look out for as far as symptoms and the agreement to what I can and can not do when home on bed rest (which is basically nothing). Additional tests were ordered and I was also referred to a kidney doctor.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Every visit with MFM was an ultrasound and then a discussion with the doc about how things were progressing. My screening labs were done through their office (quad screen or integrated screen or whatever I had). I think if I had wanted amnio or CVS they would have been the ones to do it. They gave recommendations about my lovenox dosing, when to switch to heparin, etc. They were also part of the discussion about c/s vs. trial of labor, although they had nothing to do with the actual delivery.
My first visit also included a visit with their genetic counselor, but I have several genetic diseases, so I'm not sure if that is standard.
At my first appointment they mostly talked to me. I also have been seeing an ovarian specialist so I only met with the MFM once. They order extra tests and screenings/ talk to my OB and they all confer.
I had a friend with high blood pressure and they did fetal stress tests pretty often towards the end of her pregnancy.
Also you might get more answers over on the high risk board!
I'm sorry about that hateful OB appointment!
GL!
I started seeing the Peri at 10 weeks, and had an ultrasound every 2 weeks. After the u/s he would ask me how I was feeling, etc. That's it!
Then around 16 weeks, I started going in for weekly fluid level ultrasounds and then bi-weekly growth/cervix check ultrasounds.
Once a month I go in for my "OB check" which is where I PIAC and get my weight, blood pressure, pulse, etc. checked.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
omg, talked and talked and talked, U/S, more blood, and then talk and talk and talk...
but you know what? after that first appt, I felt safe, and taken care of... I had a lot to worry about, but I felt like we were all in it together (Me, my husband, my highriskOB, the MFM attending, the endo and the pediatric endo) it felt like we were being proactive!
