XP: Thimersol free reg. flu vaccine--did you know or care?

DD is getting her seasonal flu shot on Tuesday.  Last year I know it was thimersol free.

All medical stuff said there is more mercury in a tuna sandwich.  So I am wondering if I should question it or care.

BTW it is a law in our state that she gets the seasonal flu vaccine in order to attend daycare, so she is getting it no matter what.

The H1N1 vaccine is not in anywhere around here so the jury is still out on that one!

  • My kids have only been offered the Thimerosal free vax's under 3 y/o.  Took DD to a H1N1 clinic and they had tons of shots for kids under 3 y/o, so it wasn't an issue.  They knew she was < 3 and went to get her the special shot.

  • I didn't care.  I don't believe in the hype.  That said, my child does not have any issues stemming from vaccines and/or mercury, so I might feel differently if she did.

DD got seasonal flu and H1N1 and I have no idea if either one contained mercury, I was just very thankful that she was able to get both.  Now just crossing my fingers that the booster shots will come in.

  • I'm not sure about the seasonal flu, but my pedi wouldn't give the  H1N1 shot with themerisol to Ben who is 2 1/2.  These shots were for 3 and up.  We got Ben the H1N1 Nasal spray.  I have the opinion that we all had shots that contained themerisol and we're ok.

  • Where I live the only flu shots that contain thimerosol are reserved for kids 6yrs and older. My son gets the flu mist. He did get the H1N1 and I am quite positive that contained thimerosol. One of my friends, a doctor, snuck my son a vaccine because I'm having a baby in ten days and the H1N1 is not available anywhere here for children. He reduced the dose to a child's size dose for Jack the other day.

Jack is three and I'm not so worried about thimerosol. I was slightly worried for my unborn child as I had the seasonal flu shot with thimerosol and also the H1N1 shot with thimerosol. The amounts are trace and after speaking with my doctors, I felt it was safe even in the double dose. Still I have that lingering what if in the back of my head.

  • that's also what my pedi said.  there is more mercury in a can of tuna than the regular flu shot.  Carson got the regular flu shot with thermisol the first time he had it (last fall) - he is fine.
