Tomorrow I have an U/S and will 12 weeks on saturday. before i knew that they 1st trimester actually ended at 13w 3days, i always thought we would tell everyone at 12 weeks, especially b/c i have a drs appt tomorrow.
Telling at Christmas... I'll be 10w-ish. Of course, I have no idea how I'm going to keep my trap shut for 6 weeks. Especially with the joyous return of chronic queasies, and zero appetite.
We are telling most after our NT scan at 11 weeks, 2 days. It is so obvious though. We have to tell some other fam a few days before that for a wedding. I don't want it to come out at the wedding and take away from my cousin's big day.
My doctor's office still considers 12 weeks to be the end of the 1st tri when the risk goes way down.
We waited until our first U/S that happened after 10 w which was our NT scan at 12 w (I also had an U/S at 7 w). We wanted to wait some...but I found a study that showed that for pregnancies w/a strong HB detected at 10 w, the risk of M/C was much lower than prior to 10 w, so that's why we chose it as our personal benchmark. But you have to do what's right for you: our families thought we were crazy for waiting so long to tell!
on Thanksgiving which is between 12 and 13 weeks. I don't care when the actual trimester changes we just knew we wanted to wait until the end of the first and then we saw Thanksgiving was right then and we thought it was perfect. By then we'll have had two u/s, seen HB twice and had NT scan.
We're telling after our first U/S which will be 10wks 5days, but we're waiting for that Sat. so technically 10wks 6days. I had a M/C at 5wks 5days back in April so I feel much better about getting past that time. I just wish I had more symptoms bc I'm just tired. Bout all. But my temps are still up and I def. have a "slug trail". lol. TMI! I can't wait..I've been waiting for almost 6wks for this!
We told everyone at 9 weeks because that is when we heard the heartbeat with all three. My Dr's/midwives actually hand out a sheet that explains if they detect fetal heart tones on the dopplar the rate of miscarriage/loss goes down to what it remains throughout the rest of pregnancy.
I'm in my 12th week & we've only told a few people: some of our immediate family & my closest girlfriends. I was going to wait til 16 weeks to tell work, but I have a tiny bump now so I'm going to try to make it to 14 if I can. We hear the HB again at 14w0d so I want to wait til them to tell more people.
we told the grandparents and siblings at 5 weeks, and i told my boss yesterday so its open season now. Heard the heartbeat on Tues and doc gave me the go ahead that everything is as healthy as can be
We will probably share with family at Christmas when I will be 11 weeks. That's hoping that I get my u/s early in Dec. My Mom is the only one that knows right now.
For work though I will be 13 weeks because I plan to tell when we get back from Christmas break. I can't wait to tell people because it's so weird not having anyone know!
We are telling aunts and grandparents on Thanksgiving. I'll be 13 weeks and I have a doctors appointment the day before (so I'm hoping we'll hear a strong heartbeat via doppler). Our immediate family and close friends know already.

Thank you for stating this. My doctor told me at my u/s that my rate of m/c is very low and we heard the h/b via doppler at 8w6d and the nurse said it again. I still worry (I had a loss in April). I like when people reinforce this. It really helps.
Re: 12w vs 13w3d, when are you telling?
Same! I don't think I'll be able to hide it for long.

DD1 born 5/24/10.
Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.
DD2 born 5/14/13.
Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.
My doctor advised us to tell between 10 and 12 weeks. We were already planning on telling at 12, on Christmas.
There's a small possibility we'll change our mind and tell our immediate family only before hand.

Everyone else will find out via hear say.
