Presents for family that are international???

DH's entire family live back in Ireland so we usually ship Christmas presents to them from the states but last year we spent $70 on just the shipping.  We are thinking about ordering presents from websites in their country but with exchange rates (they are in the UK) we think this may be just as expensive.  If you have family abroad how do you handle Christmas presents.

    Our families are in India and Russia - we just send cards and do gifts when we get together. There is no point in  shipping - so expensive. However, this year I bought my parents tickets to Cirque du Soleil (online) - this is their gift. HTH.

    libby, do you know if they like anything from the States that they can't get in Ireland?  i have a lot of Italian relatives and we usually send them food items and maybe clothes.  they send back name-brand Italian clothes (cheaper than here) and Italian chocolates, etc.

      Family is Irish so they have plenty of what they like in their country, ALCOHOLStick out tongue

    DH's family is from New Zealand and for the past 2 years I have gone and gotten nice professional pictures taken of DD and sent them one and then had a photo album made of her.  Sometimes I will find something small and send for his parents.  We usually try to get his sister something a little nicer.  We ship everything to her (Christmas cards and gifts) and then she gets them to where they need to go.
