  if you have an international portion/option on your plan in effect it doesn't

  SO texts/calls Norway to talk to a few of his friends and it doesn't cost extra to text but he has international options

  I know that my friend (they're on sprint) can text her dh and it's not costing her extra. he's in saudi right now.

  all i know for sure is that one anecdote, though. i would check your provider's website and plan to be sure.

  Hmm, dh is from the UK and before I moved there with him and since we have moved back to the US it has always cost us extra to text internationally, even with an international plan. It also costs to receive international texts, about 15 cents per. We have t-mobile.

  If it is a US number that happens to be out of the country, it will not cost more.  But if it is an international number you are texting there will be a small fee.

  Who is your carrier?

  If you are texting a US number out of the country w/ATT, and that person does not have an international data plan, it will cost them more. If you are texting an international number, I also think it will cost you.
