does anyone notice this about pedi visits?

dd has (knock on wood) been pretty healthy.  she just now has her third cold.  but i have noticed that all three times she has caught a cold it comes after a well visit to the pedi's office.  i don't let her touch the toys or anything.  it just seems highly coincidental to me...

  • Ashlyn has been sick twice

1 from the pedi office after a checkup

and 1 3 days after an all day trip we took via airplane

Alaina's never really been sick. She had a sinus infection once, but i think that may have just been a cold. I love the pedi, but knowing her for years, she does like her antibiotics.

I let her play with the toys every time except her 18 mo visit (last week) - I guess probably 2-3x, before that I just held her. I'm flu paranoid now. I really really wish they had separate areas for sick/well visit kids.

You know what else, though? I always schedule her the first appt of the day. Maybe it's cleaner then? There's usually no one or 1-2 patients there at that time. The one time I went later in the day there were a bajillion kids and the wait time was sloooow.

  • both kids had shots on Monday and DD has a fever  of 102 today. I called the clinic and the nurse said it was very common to get a fever 2-3 days after shots.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if she's getting sick from the waiting room.  People are stupid when it comes to the seperate waiting rooms.  I've seen a few times now moms bringing in sick kids into the well waiting room because they don't want to sit in the sick waiting room.  It just saw it last week.  This mom bring her son in who had a horrible cough.  She kept insisting to the nurse that her son wasn't sick- it was just a cough.  She was afraid her son might catch something if they went to the sick room.  Moron!

  • :::knocks on wood::::   my son never got sick after a wellness visit.  At his 15 month appt he licked the arm of the chair.  I almost died!  I thought for sure he would be getting sick but he didn't.  My pedi has a well and a sick side but I still don't trust all the sickies stay on their side.

We do this as well. And they took all of the toys out, and kids/adults who are sick have to wear masks and stay in a separate area.

  • This is why I am putting off his 15 month visit.
