. . . out there aside from myself?
It doesn't seem like there are very many Bumpie animal lovers. I can't be alone!
We have cats, and we've already received several surprised comments when we tell them we're not getting rid of our cats to prepare for baby. Why would we get rid of our animals? They're not our kids, but they're family too! We'll keep the kitties out of the nursery for the most part and put a crib tent on the crib, but outside of that, our kids and cats will learn to get along. I always had cats and dogs growing up and LOVED it! I hope to give my kids the same experience.
So who?s with me? Do your family/friends/coworkers think you should ditch your animals for baby?
Re: Any animal lovers . . .
I'm with ya! We have two cats and two dogs and have no plans of getting rid of our furbabies! My mom has made several comments like, "Well, you could save some money if you get rid of those animals," and "When we had you, we wanted to make sure the house was nice and clean so we got rid of our animals." I'm not going to be letting our child roll around in fur balls. Good grief.
Speaking of crib tents...have you seen any for bedside co-sleepers?
We`ve got a German Shepherd/Border Collie puppy...No way I could give her up. Love her like child!
My parents love her too and so do DH`s parents...worse case scenario, she is not doing well with the baby (and we do not see that happening) both sets of parents have offered to take her.
I could not do that to a pet that has grown into a routine and become part of the family!
There are a lot of bumpies with fur babies don't you worry
I have two cats and a dog. People can think what they want but we kept them when we found out we were pg with DD. I've heard every reason in the world we should ditch them.
My reason for keeping them tops it all.... I love them.. enough said!
Exactly! I don't understand how someone can just rid of their pets like it's nothing, all because they're having a baby. It makes me sad, honestly. Unless there was a really strong medical reason why our animals and baby couldn't be together, the cats are here to stay. Even then, I'd home them with relatives or friends and would take them back as soon as I could ;-)
I love my fur kids
I couldn't imagine getting rid of them. Our 2 cats seem to respect areas that we don't want them climbing and I don't think the crib will be a problem but I am getting a crib tent.
My mom is not really a cat lover and made a comment that she heard a story about the cat "sucking the air" from the baby. This is an urban legend, if it were true it must have been a possessed cat from hell. She has learned to like the cats and sees that they are good natured.
Whew! I feel better. I've read way too many posts about Bumpies wanting to get rid of their pets or wanting to keep them out in their garages/outside permenantly or until baby is older. I feel much, much better!
Though compared to you all, we look crazy! We have seven cats. Luckily we have a fairly large house and we're obsessive about cleanliness. :-) It's a lot of work, but you'd never know we have cats if you walked into our house (it's a comment we receive refrequently!)
We have 2 pugs and 2 kitties...no way would I ever give them up. We adopted them, they are our babies now and forever. We see our responsibility to them as just as important as our responsibility to our baby. We promised to house and feed and love them and we will, always.
They are going to be fantastic big brothers and sisters to our baby.
