Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If you work from home come in.

How do you get your work done?  Is it when SO gets home from work or before?  Do you hire someone to watch LO at your place while you work?  It just isn't working out for me right now and I'm getting really behind.

Re: If you work from home come in.

  • When M naps and when he goes down for the night are the only times I can get anything done! I feel your pain!

  • Having someone watch DD for at least one full day/week is a must. When I have major projects, I sometimes have someone watch DD 3-4 days/week.

  • Last year things were sooooo easy!!  I teach music lessons from home, and I could put DS in his pnp with some snacks and toys and teach for an hour, no problem.  Well, there's no way that would fly now!

So...I now have to teach lesson from 5-7 (or 6-7) on the weekdays and even teach the rest of my kids on Sunday when DH is home.  I hate that I have to work on the weekends, but I just can't fit everyone in otherwise.

  • It used to be easier when DS napped twice a day. ?I worked before DH left for work (he is usually home until 8:30am), then during naps and after bed if needed.

Now that he's just napping once I'm having a hard time as well. ?I'm doing more in the evenings to play catch up, which sucks. ?I'm planning to start him in pre-school/MDO this winter or spring, so I'll just hang in there until then! ?My friend who WAH has a nanny come two mornings a week and that works well for her. ?I just don't make enough from my pt WAH job to justify that- I'd probably just break even.

  • I have a job where the work NEEDS to be done off hours. I work doing international tax law for a large company. (what i did before) ~ i am on conference calls in the middle of the night which is working business hours for most of my clients- I answer ALOT of emails through out the day and I am on several conference calls about domestic US tax issues but my 'day' work is pretty flexible. It is the night stuff that is rough for me (little sleep) ~

I don't have anyone that watches Gisele- I just set her up with a semi quiet activity if i have a call during the day and the mute button is my friend.

My job isn't the 'norm' though-

GL- juggling working at home is VERY hard.

  • Daycare! I treat my home office just like I would a traditional work office. I wouldn't take her there to work with me, so I don't keep her at home with me.

My productivity takes a nosedive when she is here.

  • I own a Staffing firm and plan my candidate phone interviews in the evening and work when he naps.  When #2 gets here in Feb, I will be screwed!! I will need a babysitter or I will get nothing done.
  • I take her to daycare. Not only does my company prohibit keeping your LO home while you work, but I wouldn't be able to get much done.  I generally work normal business hours and am on conference calls a good bit, so I really don't have the flexibility anyway.
  • I work a full time job from home 8:30-5 with DD home with me. It's HARD but we simply can't afford daycare. Lucky for me she took a nap during my conference call today.

The mute button and her pacifier are my friends.  Although I am never going to get rid of that damn pacifier this way <sigh>

If I have a full day I need to be "on" I have my mom watch her or drop her at a sitters for a few hours. When #2 comes I am screwed.

  • Even on my WFH days, he goes to daycare for most or all of the day.  I also do stuff after he goes to bed at night. If I have an overwhelming amount to do, I let DH take over as soon as he walks in the door and work through bathtime and bedtime and beyond.

Nesting/bumping is the thing that interferes with my productivity the most. (case in point - I'm supposed to be wrapping up some work now. Ugh.)

me too! i would get NOTHING done if DS was home with me.

  • I feel your pain! Thankfully I can do internet stuff (finding job leads for clients) while ds is awake and playing. As soon as he goes down for a nap, I pick up the phone and make as many phone calls as I can. Sometimes I'll wait til dh gets home and then tuck myself into my office. We're really slow right now, so when dh gets home at 4pm I'm pretty much just done for the day cause I have to get dinner going.

My mom watches him here on Friday's for me so I can get stuff done. A few months ago when I was really busy, I hired my SIL to watch him for a few hours a day so I could make my phone calls and stuff.
