Please recommend your carrier- NOT a moby!

I have a Moby, but it's just a pain in the butt to tie on and get him in (imo). It takes too long and it's too much fabric to work with. I'm sure with practice we could perfect it, but I need something NOW!

So please ladies, what carrier/sling do you use and why do you like it? I would like something I can use now (he's 3 weeks) and also something that can grow with him. Thanks so much Smile

  • I love my Babyhawk.  She fits in it now and it will definitely grow with her.  It's pretty quick to get on and I like that you can do a front and back carry with it (although she's not big enough for a back carry yet).  Overall, I love it :)

  • I do use Moby a lot, but I always keep my "peanut shell" in the car for errands. I have put my DD in it since she was three weeks old. It is SO much easier for quick trips out. I did use it in the house as well, when she was having a meltdown it calmed her to be so snug. When she gets a little older I can use it as a hip sling, so it does grow with her.

We love the babyhawk as well.  G's a big boy and he's totally comfortable to carry with it on.

  • I used a Bjorn Air for the first 5 months and it was great.  Then switched to an Ergo and LOVE it.  Both are idiot-proof, very easy to use, which is what I wanted.

  • My DD lived in the bjorn when she was little. Still loves it, though she's getting a bit heavy
  • I think a mei tai like the baby hawk is a nice option that can take you from newborn to toddler.

A soft structured carrier like the beco or ergo might be another option.

  • If you like the feel of a Moby once it's on, but just don't want to mess with it, try a Baby K'Tan.  I consider it a Moby for Dummies.  We really like ours and at 17 lbs it still works for DS.

This is my favorite, too.  I originally was given and used a Jeep 2-in-1 carrier, which I used when DD was just a few weeks old and still do, but the wrap is my go to when I'm out and about town.  It's easy and comfortable to use, great to nurse in (though more difficult now To hide her completely), and can be used as a back carrier when she's older. I pREFER THE jeep for long walks since it's distributed on both shoulders and around the house b/c it gives me more flexibility with my hands.

  • i don't have experience with using a sling with an actual baby, but yesterday i got a Balboa Baby ring sling/pouch from target for 1/2 of, and i have been wearing my cat around the house to get a feel for it :) I really like it because it has the versitiality of a ring sling with the roominess and security of a pouch. Again, i haven't used it with a baby yet, but my 10 13 pound cat loves it :)
  • I got a Beco when DS was about your LO's age (maybe 4 weeks?)  and it is great!  It comes with the infant insert so you can start using it right away, and we plan to use it for years.  Very very comfortable, even if I wear DS for hours.

It depends what your priority is for BW right now.  I had always planned on both the Moby and the Beco.  Once I had both I realized I wanted something even quicker in/out for errands and times around the house when I'm not sure what he wants (a pain for sure to get the Moby situated and then realize 2 minutes later that he's poopy or hungry or something).  Anyway, for the quickest on/off and in/out I got a Peanut Shell pouch, and I love it for that purpose.  It will never be my "wear for 3 miles" carrier, but I have the Beco for that.
