Ladies who knit/crochet

I would really like to learn how. I am semi-crafty and can do simple sewing things, cross-stitch, etc. Do you have an good recommendations for books or online resources for beginners? I've made a stocking for DH and would like to make one for DS. Thanks!

Youtube is great or find someone that can & have them show you. That is how I learned and now I use youtube for different stitches or if I am stuck reading a pattern.

I really like Stitch 'n B!tch by Debbie Stoller. Very good at walking you through the basics.

ravelry.com is THE online repository of patterns, yarns, also with forums and groups to join. I tend to not learn a new technique until it's needed in a pattern, so I browse for things that inspire me.
