Cautiously saying hi... with a ?

Hi Ladies,

I got my bfp two weeks ago, for the second time. The first time was earlier this year and didn't end well, as I had a miscarriage and d&c in June. This time my betas have been better so I was starting to feel hopeful. I went in for my first u/s today at 6w1d and we saw a heartbeat, but I didn't see a yolk sac. The RE said not to worry about it b/c the heart can't start beating without the yolk sac and that it was probably hiding.  I'm a little skeptical b/c I didn't see a yolk sac but heard a strong heartbeat with my first pregnancy at 8 weeks. I was wondering what your thoughts were on this and if this has ever happened to anyone and ended positively?

.. for now i'm just very cautiously saying hi and really hoping that i can stay..

Re: Cautiously saying hi... with a ?

  • Hmm I am not sure about this but I just wanted to say hi to you and I have my fingers crossed all is well!!!

  • I don't have any experience with the heartbeat, but no yolk sac. However, I'd have to agree with your RE that there can't be a HB without a yolk sac. Congrats on the BFP and good luck to you.

  • I don't have an answer for you, but hope it all turns out well!  We first went in just to determine the sac was in the right place (not ectopic), and then the second was to see the heartbeat.  I would tend to think that if you see a heartbeat, then it must be fine.

  • I don't remember looking for the yolk sac once we saw the heartbeat. That was pretty much the only thing that mattered at that point, as far as I knew. :)

Congratulations. I hope this one sticks! Good luck. :)

  • Congrats on seeing a heartbeat and welcome :)

  • Congrats and welcome!!

Your RE is absolutely right...you can't have a heartbeat without first having a yolk sac...I had a great website about early fetal development, but now I can't find it.

I'll look around and see if I can find it and post it...
