Success after IF

Can they MAKE you SR?

I've seen reference to RE's making you sign something saying you'll SR, my OB eluded to it... etc.

Can they really hold you to that? or it's just something for them to wave saying "I told them it would end up being octuplets!"

Just curious.

Re: Can they MAKE you SR?

  • I'm not sure they can make you.  I think I signed something when I was being unmonitored at my obgyn using clomid that said I understood there was a risk of HOM.

That said, if you do something against their guidance (like you have sex when they told you -you had 12 follicles or whatever) then they may choose NOT to be your dr.  I don't htink they can force you to SR.

  • I don't see how there's any possible way they can make you.  We got the stern talk before my IUI, but there were no promises made on my part.  And that'd be like a doctor saying you HAVE to have another type of medical treatment.

  • No.

They can 'fire' you from their practice, but they can't force you to SR.

  • No possible way they could make you, no matter what you signed.

  • That would be like forcing an abortion on you, from a legal point of view.  Impossible.  It's just to cover their asses that they warned you.
  • no, I dont think they can make you it. I beleive they only put that to release them from being liable if you do end up with HOM (like if the patient came back and said, well I didnt know it was a risk, and now I am pg with quads sort of thing..) So they have something saying that you were aware of the risks, and only proceeded because you were OPEN to SR. Atleast thats the way I take it.

  • well that's pretty much what I figger'd. hmm.

Incidently, my regular doc I loved called me the other night to check in, and I asked him if he would have gone ahead with the IUI like we did. ("5" follies, E2 780) He said "oh heck yea, we would have had 'the talk' but yes, it was probably, really, only 3, MAYBE 4, so yea, you had a perfect cycle. I'm sorry it didn't work. I'm shocked, really."

Silverlining... Doctor Monkey didn't knock me up.  ;-)

My doc also assures me he's in town this time. For shizzle.

total sidebar.... I did a little research on Dr. Monkey... named "Doc of the Year" many years by a prominent mag here in town. WTF. lol.

  • No, but they could sue you for breech of contract. However, why? It's just something they do to ensure that you can't go back and sue THEM for lack of information about the risk.
