** Celyn ** re: hypnobirthing vs hypnobabies?

Hi Teri (and anyone else),

What is the difference between these two? Would you reccomend one over the other? I remember hearing about hypnobirthing in 2006 from you, Amy & Sheila. I looked into local classes but I was too late, so I used the book instead. I think I was able to use the teachings & ideas from the book in my own birth experience as I think it was meditative & calm. I also think the Prenatal Yoga helped me too.

As always, thanks for your insight!

Teri is my doula and when I asked about recommended reading and Hypno stuff this is the info she gave me.

I really liked the home study Hypnobabies class. I have the crash course, but if you've never done hypno before, you'd probably get more out of it if you did the full course. It's $140, which is a lot less than a Hypnobirth class.

You might also want to read Birthing from Within, Hypnobirth: The Mongan Method, and The Birth Partner. All of those are pretty common library finds.

    Hope that helps!

  • Hypnobirthing as a standard class has a lot of childbirth education stuff.  Going into baby #2, you probably don't need as much of that.  I know a few people who teach hypnobirthing one-on-one though for about the same price, so they could tailor it to your needs.

If homestudy is more your thing and all you need to learn are the self-relaxation techniques, Hypnobabies is a good way to go.

With either technique the key is practice, practice, practice.  If you're just going to listen to the scripts once and wing it when the time comes, it generally does not work very well.  If you have experience with something similar, like someone who meditates regularly and is able to turn off distraction at the drop of a hat, it does come more quickly though.

  • Thanks KellyM & Teri.

It sounds like I'll want to look more at hypnobabies than hypnobirthing. I'll have to see how the next month goes and see if I *make* time to do self practices or if I want the structure of a program. I was able to find my zone or quiet place (I guess maybe it was meditation??) pretty easily last time, and hope I'll be able to do it again.

  • Butting in here....

Kelly I didn't know Teri was going to be your doula!!  I just LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEE her!! :-)

  • I only did Hypnobirth, but I wish I had at least seen the material for hypnobabies. Anyway, although I had anything BUT a natural birth, the relaxation and breathing techniques helped me immeasurably, especially when things were not going as planned. the endorphin release exercises, not so much. I think someone told me those are better in the H.babies. GL!!!
