It's become a freaking battle to get DD to eat. When we left the NICU last weekend she was taking 90ml/4hrs. But she was projectile vomitting at least part of that back up. Sometimes all of it. She weighed 8lbs, 13oz at discharge on Saturday.
We saw the ped yesterday and she weighed in at 8lbs, 4oz. He didn't seem too concerned about it. But for the last three days, if we can get her to take 3oz at a feeding, 99% of the time it comes right back up. So I reduced the bottles to 2oz. But it's now a battle to get her to take that. She makes awful faces and pitches a royal fit. Sometimes she'll take an ounce or so and then just go to sleep.
The smaller feedings have reduced the spit up, but she's also eating considerably less than this time last week. I don't know if it makes a difference that the NICU was using RTF and we switched to powder? She's on NeoSure and I'm not 100% convinced that we're not dealing with a milk protein allergy/sensitivity.
Add to all of this the gas and constipation from the rice cereal mixed with her formula and we have ourselves one pissed off little girl.
*sigh* I guess I'll go buy a bottle of RTF NeoSure and see if that makes a difference. We go back to the ped next Wednesday for a follow up weight check.
Re: Let's talk reflux.
Powder and RTF made a HUGE difference for us with Lily. She was on Enfacare when we brought her home and the pedi switched her to Enfamil AR at her first visit. We battled that (with Zantac) until I finally switched her myself at 3.5 months to ProSoBee (soy) and dropped the Zantac. We still added rice cereal to her bottles because she still had spit up issues, but the gas and pain were gone.
She is almost 8 months old and the spit up got so much better when we introduced solid foods. It doesn't always work, but it certainly did for her.
Hugs. My laundry machine was non-stop for a long time. Blankets and towels were burp cloths. Now, she doesn't even need a bib. It will get better!!
She's on Zantac.
We use zantac and it works for us, but some say it didn't touch LO's reflux. Could it be you need something else?
You might have the dosage reviewed and/or consider trying a new one. It certainly doesn't sound like it's working very well!
Zantac didn't work for us at all. Our pedi put DS on prevacid. And he didn't tolerate the pills so we have him on the suspension. It is very pricey but you do what you have to do. We also had issues with the neosure. We ended up switching to the target version of enfamil gentlease when he reached about 10 pounds. He was just sooo gassy and having so much tummy pain. We were doing mylicon before every bottle and gripe water 4 or 5 times a day. The first three months were awful.
We never did rice cereal mixed in or RTF formula. And we started rice cereal at 4 months per our pedi's recommendation to help with the reflux and I hate to say it but...it hasn't made much of a difference. Hasn't really helped with his sleeping either.
Maybe the simple suggestions of switching to prevacid or just keeping DD elevated after meals will help. We had DS sleeping in his newborn napper and then on his boppy for a very long time! We also made sure to burp about every 1-1.5 ounces when feeding. I will say that after about 3 months things did seem to get a bit better pain-wise for DS. And with the prevacid the projectile vomiting stopped and his intake finally increased once we started the suspension. But he still spits up about 4 times a day
