I just re-organized the play area. I put a whole bunch of stuff in the attic and re-arranged everything that's left. It looks awesome. And I got all of the toys out of the living room! So, I have a couple of questions.
Do you have art supplies (crayons, paper, play dough) accessible to DC or do you have them kept up high? Currently, I have the art supplies and puzzles on top of the bookcase because she usually makes a huge mess with them. I'm wondering if I should start to give her better access to them.
Second, do you have any tips for book storage? I moved a bunch of books off the toy shelves so I could consolidate the toys. Now I have no idea where to put these. I have board books in canvas bins, but these books are larger and won't fit. They need to be at her level since she's very into them right now. Ideas?
Re: Play room/ toy organization?
We actually keep the art supplies in one of the drawers of our entertainment console. She was always opening the drawer anyway and pulling out what was in there (we kept light bulbs there, for some reason; obviously those were moved). I just kind of keep an eye on her when she gets into them, and we don't have any paints, just markers and crayons and scrap paper.
We keep her books in a big plastic bin we got at Target. I've been thinking about getting a bookshelf for them, but it's so easy to just toss everything in there, and she likes rummaging through to find a book. I can't really figure out how she choses one -- it's funny to watch her pick up a book, consider it, and then toss it aside.
We just got all of Ben's toys out of our living room too. Isn't it a great feeling? And the room looks 3 times bigger.
I keep all arts and supplies stuff (which is actually only crayons at this point, I haven't taken out the other stuff) out of his reach because he cannot be trused with them when not in our sight. I have a trash can and a dining room chair as evidence of this.
We have his books in a really nice wicker basket for now.
