LIP:Recession affecting women's plans to have children

I just read this on Baby Center and wondered what you ladies thought. Or if it has affected your decision to have another baby. https://www.babycenter.com/204_recession-affecting-womens-plans-to-have-children-survey-sho_10319279.bc

It hasn't affected our decision. Personally I feel that the recession isn't going to last forever. And I would regret not having another baby.

Re: LIP:Recession affecting women's plans to have children

  • For us, it is (indirectly).

Because of the recession, my DH's job is forcing him to work OOT for the past year and who knows how much longer. I refuse to TTC while he's still OOT.

  • i dont think its the recession for us.. maybe part of it but mostly we are just not ready mentally to handle another child!
  • The recession hasn't completely affected our decision on TTC #2. We're just on more of a budget this time around. We're going to reuse as much as we can of DD's. I am thankful though b/c my husband can't exactly get laid off, so we have a steady paycheck twice a month.

  • Our decision has been affected by my DH's health more than the recession but now just thinking of the idea of paying $1600 a month for daycare for 2 kids ummmmm scares us a bit. I haven't gotten a raise in almost 2 years because I work for a cruise line and the travel industry is not doing so well right now. So unless things change we might have to put baby #2 on hold for a bit longer than we want.
  • This is true for us 100%!! Unfortunately. :(

I lost my job a year ago due to the recession. My ideal plan would have been to TTC #2 when DS turned 2...which was back in May. After I lost my job I decided to go back to school. Now that is putting off TTC even longer. *sigh* I know that if I were still employed, we would have been TTC already by now.

This. We honestly don't let the recession affect anything we do.

  • We got hit by the bad economy RIGHT AFTER we got pregnant with Harmon.  It made me realize that the bad economy doesn't last forever and now we are doing good again.  We might have future problems but I don't think I'll regret my 3.
