High-Risk Pregnancy

first high-risk post (long)

well i guess i belong on this board now.  here's my story:  After moving around a bit more than usual at work on thursday I started getting kinda crampy and really tired thursday evening, i figured i just over did it a bit and needed to rest.  friday morning i felt better but as the day went on i was exhausted and a little cramply, the whole weekend went like this, i was fine if i was propped up on the couch or laying in bed but walking around wore me out.  I had a dr's appt. on monday morning so i waited it out figuring i was nothing.  I told the dr. if i had a scale of 1-10 and my menstral cramps were a 10 then these were maybe a 2, i wouldn't even call it pain, just discomfort.   well she did an internal just incase and i am 1-2cm and 80% effaced, deff not good at 32 weeks.  so it was straight down to L&D for me (tip: always eat before an appt. if this is a possiblilty lol).  They hooked me up to the monitors and I was having contractions 2 minutes apart and couldn't even feel them.  then i went for a growth ultrasound, this was the only fun part of my visit, my baby boy is already 5lbs!!! I could see him breathing his amniotic fluid and sucking his thumb so i know he's growing well!!!  The dr. ordered a round of steroids to help speed up his lung development since he very well may try to make an early appearence.  they tried procardia and two shots of terb and none of it worked to stop my contractions so i got hooked up to the magnisium IV.  this was the worst feeling ever, i can't stand the novicane at the dentist much less not being able to move my whole body but by the next morning the contractions had stopped and they let me go home at 6pm yesterday with prodcardia to take every 6 hours and no more work and bedrest until atleast 35 weeks.

  • I'm glad they were able to get a handle on everything.  Rest up!

  • Yep, that sucks.  Last Monday (I was 32w5d) I was contracting every few minutes, went to L&D (and had been on Procardia every 6 hours for weeks already), was 2cm, got hooked up to mag, got the steroid shots, and was finally released on Friday.  I'll be on BR until 36w and it's so hard to not be able to do anything.  Hang in there, hopefully the next 3w fly by for you and your little boy stays put.
  • Glad everything is better now, get lots of rest and try and relax. Sounds like your little boy couldn't be healthier though, and 5 lbs is great!

  • I delivered my daughter at 34w1d and she was 5lbs then.  5lbs at 32 weeks is great!  Good luck at keeping him in a little longer.  By the way, after a 13 day NICU stay which was mainly due to her learning to eat, my peanut did and is doing great.  She just turned 2 last Friday and is a beautiful, happy, healthy little girl.
  • thank you for all the encouragment ladies, i have been a little nervous but i'm holding up surprising well.  I have a very positive outlook and just know that he will be fine no matter when he decides it's time to come.
