I'm realizing that DD doesn't "cluster feed" as much as I thought and I'm really just being used as an extra-large paci for a lot of the day. Sometimes she falls off, sleeps for a few minutes, but then wakes up wailing and rooting - she's still hungry. Other times, she comes off and is quiet and alert for a while, but then shortly thereafter starts wailing - but no rooting. Now the easiest thing is to pacify her with comfort nursing. There's nothing wrong with that right now, right? Something that's unique though is that I have to use a nipple shield right now and this makes me even more paci-like. She spends a lot of time squirming and all when she's on though so that's how I know it's not really productive eating. So far she seems to be a pretty fussy baby and this is just her nature. *sigh* Like I said, it's just easier to keep her at the breast where she seems happiest. Help anyone?

Re: Comfort nursing help (long, sorry...)
There is absolutely nothing wrong with letting her comfort nurse as long as you're comfy with it. It's great for bonding. And at this age you can't make bad habits.
Comfort sucking also helps them with gas and pooping as the sucking action makes the sphincter move.
M comfort nursed all the time. In fact sometimes she still does.
