SAHMs: When Do You Get Up?

I see so much on here when people post their schedules that their LO wakes around 6am-7am and they do too.

I'm assuming this might be because they have to get ready for work and daycare?

My DH has been making fun of my because we literally don't get out of bed anymore before 10:30am and sometimes 11am.

I justify by the fact that 1.) we don't got to bed until 12am (LO sometimes by 11pm) and we're awake multiple times during the night for her to nurse.

I pretty much like it although sometimes I wish I was up for AM hours too ;-)

We used to have more "normal" hours, but DH started working late shifts so I stay up until he gets home and sometimes keep LO up to see him.

So....am I just lazy or does anyone else keep similar hours?

  • DS STTN. He generally goes to bed around 7:30pm and gets up for the day 6-6:30am, so that is when I get up.

  • DS gets up between 6 and 7am.

    So do I.

  • I get up around 7 am with DS.

  • I work at home and stay home with DD. My work schedule it pretty flexible. I often don't get up between 9:00-10:00 am when DD wakes up. (I know, crazy that she'll sleep that late).
  • Anywhere between 6-7am.
  • We also get up between 6-7am, DS goes to bed at 6:30-7.  I can't keep him up past 7 he gets too tired.
  • DS wakes at 8am and I get up then too, well I am awake by then at least. I hang out in bed having some coffee while DS has a bottle, plays in his crib and with me for a bit then takes a nap around 10:30. We arent downstairs sometimes until 11am.
  • You have a different situation than us, so it makes sense your family to do this.

DH does not work nights and is home by 6, so DD goes to bed at 8 and gets up anywhere from 7-9:30. I usually get up at 7 when DH does for work and take a shower and such if she is not awake yet.

If it work for you don't worry about it. I know plenty of families that do this.

  • DD goes to bed usually around 8:30-9 and STTN. She gets up at about 8:30 for the day. Here and there she will not want to go to bed early and then she will get up earlier...most of the time its 4 or 5am and I give her a bottle and she goes back to bed..
  • We are up at 6:30 but dd used to go back to sleep after about 45 minutes so I would go back to sleep too. We didn't start our day until about 9 then.
  • I see no reason to get up before the kids to (or before the first one did, when I only had one) unless we had to be somewhere. DD was a sleeper, too, so I often got to stay in bed until 10:30am. It was heaven!

DS has always been more of an early riser (and early is relative, of course) so I had to start getting up around 8am for him.

But now we have school for DD and we have to get up around 7:30. On the weekends, DS will sleep until 9-ish, but DD is now the one who's up at 7am. We tell her to play in her room though. She'll play or read books until 8:30 or she'll turn on the TV by herself and watch a few shows (HORROR of HORRORS!).

  • I was SAH for the first four months and now that I'm working pt time - most of it is from home ... theoretically I could stay in bed all morning but I don't want to.

I kind of feel like good sleeping habits and routines are set by the parents. DS goes to bed at 6p and wakes up at 7a. DH does the first feeding/play so that he gets time with DS, while I get dressed for the day. DS and I enjoy walks in the morning and staying on a schedule/routine.

  • Ds goes to bed around 7 and gets up 6:30-7:30, so I get up when ds does
  • DS gets up between 7 and 7:30am every AM, so that's my wake up time too.
  • ds sttn. he goes down around 9 and wakes around 8am. dh works nights so he comes in around 8 and the dogs bark so that wakes him!! but we usually do breakfast, grab a bottle and jump back in our bed to watch mickey mouse and then nap!
  • DD gets about between 6 and 7 a.m. so that's when I get up.
  • DS goes down between 6:30 or 7 and gets up around 6:30ish, so that's when I get up.
  • I SAH until 6 months and now work 3 days a week. DD is up by 6am (if I'm lucky she will stay in bed happy until 7), so I get up with her.
  • I get up when LO gets up. He wakes up between 7 and 8 in the morning.
  • My IRL friend has a similar schedule to yours and it works for her.

DS goes to bed at 7pm, sttn, and wakes up at about 5/5:30am, but we leave him in the crib until 6am, per HSHHC to try and get him to not wake up before 6, but I don't think it's working.  Anyway, we tried to get DS to sleep later... more like 10pm to 8/9am, but it was a huge fail and he ended up waking up multiple times at night wanting to only sleep while being held or to play instead because he was too overtired and it went against his natural clock... so the books tell me.  DH gets DS at about 6 and I get out of bed at 7... I'm not sleeping, but laying in trying not to be so grumpy, lol.

  • DS and I are exactly the same. DH gets home between 9 and 10, and DS goes to bed between 11 and midnight. We usually get up between 10:30 and noon. It's what works for us.
