i was talking to my niece (she's 13) yesterday about nirvana and she kept giving me these blank stares and i finally was like, "you know who nirvana is riiiiiiight?" and she was like, "uh no. never heard of them."
This one kills me. My 14-year-old nephew has the same reaction when DH or I mentions Nirvana. Then I remember that he was born 2 years after Kurt Cobain died.
When DH was a TA in Kansas City back in the late 90s, he was shocked at how many of the kids he taught had never heard of musicians like Jimi Hendrix or The Doors. Hell, many of them didn't have any knowledge of albums prior to "The Chronic".
It's sad, really.
