  I have a Panasonic Lumix and I like it.

  It was a replacement for a Canon p&s and that was the best camera ever.  Small, took great photos, great battery life.  Get her a canon.

  just wanted to say DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT get the nikon coolpix.  i hate mine with a passion -- the shutter speed is a joke and i constantly miss photos bc of it....

  plus, when i upload pics, sometimes they come up on the computer discolored, disjointed, and cut in half...it happens with MIL's and GMIL's pics too, and we all have different versions of the coolpix.

  Ditto every word. This is a HORRIBLE camera.  Get a Canon, I've had both, and the Canon is much much better.
