NBR: What's a good state?

To move to that has a lower standard of living than Florida. SO and I hate florida, and I'm at the point where I'm willing to take on a year of out-of-state tuition in order to move to a different state. We both want normal seasons, maybe somewhere like NC or OH. Any ideas?

  • I have lived in Charlotte for 8 years and I love it. It is wonderful here. I am from Pennsylvania so the weather here is great. We still have 4 seasons but they are not as drastic as PA.

  • I love SC.  It's warm but we still have seasons and the cost of living is pretty low.
  • Ne has sesaons but it is pretty boring.  How about Vermont or Maine or Boston?

  • TN is nice and there is no state income tax.  I love NC, too, especially the eastern part of the state.  I would move there if DH would let me.
  • The cost of living is really low where I am in NW OH but out of state tuition in OH is really high
  • I was actually thinking NC & PA.... we've lived in NC, NJ & MD. Charlotte is great but I think it can be priceier since it's a "big city." Closer to Raliegh, like Knightdale, Carey might be better. Just remember your pay is also going to be relative to that state.

MD & NJ are pretty similar with HIGH COL. Taxes are cheaper in MD though and the people are waaaaay nicer, lol!! I wouldn't live anywhere in the NE if you want cheaper. PA or upstate NY, maybe.

I have a few friends who work in NJ but live in PA b/c it's cheaper.

There are never sunny days in OH, so I hear. I would NOT want to live there--sorry ya'll.

  • I would say Illinois since we do have all the 4 seasons though.  Well actually we really don't, it's usually winter or summer here, lol.
  • Cost of living is pretty low in MI and we get all the seasons, but our economy is absolute crap right now. I could probably guarantee that you'd have a heck of a time finding a job here :(

  • I've lived in many places. I would recommend where I am now as it has a low cost of living and I absolutely love it, but there aren't normal seasons here.

I would avoid the northeast (high cost of living).

NC or SC are ok. Not my cup of tea (I find Raleigh and Charlotte to be very boring places to live overall). The mountains and the beach are very nice, and people always say, "oh you're X hours from the mountains and X hours from the beach!" But personally I would rather live in the mountains or on the beach than in the middle zone between. I did like Chapel Hill, so you could look into Carrboro maybe.

OH I would consider again. I loved Cleveland. It's on the lake (though I wouldn't go swimming in it, haha). And there are lots of great local restaurants due to the different cultures. And it's got so much history. Also great cost of living. DH fondly recalls Columbus. Cleveland has a bad reputation, but I really liked it there. You need to be prepared for long winters though. Lots of shoveling. How long have you lived in FL, haha!?

I've lived in FL my entire life, I'm itching to escape lol. We don't need "real" seasons. I don't necessarily want to shovel my driveway or anything lol. But the only season we have here is summer, and it's brutal.

It's sunny today!!!!!!!  But, it's very cloudy here.  It's very cheap to live in NE Ohio, but there are NO jobs here. I'd love to move.
