What would you rather hear?
I know neither is ideal, but if you were on a plane, would you be totally annoyed with kid toys? We are flying to Jamaica next Saturday and I bought a bunch of smaller toys for our 1YO for on the plane to keep her busy. DH says we can't use those b/c they all make noise (other than books, what toys don't?) I told him it would sound better than a crying baby. Would the sound of toys drive you insane?

I would much rather hear toys than crying for a whole flight. Also, you have to assume most of the people will be going on vacation, too, and everyone is happy when they're going on vacation so I don't think people will mind too much!
My only thought about the toys is with all the icky stuff going around (H1N1, etc.) I would be careful of your baby putting them in her mouth, etc. if they have already fallen on the floor... maybe bring some sanitizing wipes just to be safe. Enjoy your trip!
Other than books and dolls, there really aren't many. If you look in the stores, most of the non-noisy toys are for like 3 months. Definately wouldn't entertain her long! Luckily she really likes books so we can try to keep her busy with that for awhile and hope she falls asleep, but I don't think it'll last the whole flight.
I would go with toys as well. But when I was flying with my DS I bought a small on of those magic board things, you know with the handel that erases what you draw? Some new Triangle (so they don't roll off) colors and a coloring book. They sell travle sized Aqua Doodles which he thought was great, as well as we brought our portable dvd player...but I think either way the toys will be much better the crying!

Did the pressure hurt her ears at all? Luckily, DD takes a Nuk so I think the sucking will help. Our Dr. said she was too little for Benadral (sp?) so she'd sleep on the flight. Did you get your DD her own seat? We had decided against it to save the $500 so I hope she doesn't get restless in our laps. My whole family is going (parents, sibllings, nieces and nephews) so maybe we can pass her around and that'll keep her busy. If only we could have a private jet!!
The pressure didn't seem to bother her ears. She was still nursing, so we did that on and off throughout the flight, as well as offerring her pacifier whenever she wanted it. We did not her a seat, and really lucked out by having a whole row to ourselves on the way there. Despite that being a late flight, she did not sleep much. On the way home was actually worse because she slept horribly the whole week we were in CA and didn't have an extra seat. But she went right back to being herself after a good night's sleep in her crib. Passing her around to the others should help, as long as she knows them well. Good luck!
