Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

a little PSA:

I was at a holiday fair this weekend and there was a booth representing a women's & children's shelter for women who leave abusive partners.

I was asking if they are in need of anything specific right now, and the person said that they show up there with literally nothing, so anything, including clothes, blankets, toys, food, shoes, etc. was needed.

It was a nice reminder to me that instead of taking things to Goodwill or reselling them, this is a good option. I can't imagine how hard it is for these women to up and leave, and really, anything that makes it easier for them sounds good to me. I plan on donating any duplicate (or even just excess) toys DD gets this Christmas, among other things.

  • Yes. far better than a grammar PSA...Wink
  • Its also a good option for diapers that DC outgrows before you can finish the box.
  • My employer does an annual drive for our local women's shelter. They usually request things like travel sized shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, hairspray, toothbrushes, feminine products, deodorant, shower gel, diapers...pretty much anything you need to use over the course of a day. Lots of people donate their shampoo/conditioner from hotel stays that they don't use.

  • I just donated a huge bag of the girls' outgrown clothes, as well as all those samples of formula I never used and the many boxes of rice/oatmeal they never touched.
  • I took a couponing class recently and the woman running it suggested that when we find those really good deals on things like deodorant, soaps and shampoos that we take some of it and donate it to a women's shelter. I made an effort to do this and with very little cost to me, was able to send a nice sized box of hygiene products out to them.

  • Thanks.  Great idea :)

I plan to take Lily's re-usable stuff to a kid's charity in our area. One of the very cool things they do is they have created a sort-of half-way house for kids in the foster care system. It's large enough to keep brothers and sisters together that would have otherwise been split up. If you're in the Tampa area, here's the info for bringing donations.
