My doctor talked to me about doing some tests and this came up as one of the first that is done. DH and I were talking it over and he wants to know if he has to go in to the doctors office for this. I have no clue, I didn't think to ask.
Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment
He has the choice of doing it at home or in the office. If he does it at home it has to be there within 30 or 45 minutes after and it has to be kept at body temperature.

If you are having the SA they will give you instructions.
Mostly done at the lab/office, but sometimes can be done offsite and brought in, as long as they sample is collected correctly and delivered in a the correct (short) amount of time.
Your doctor will be able to give you all of the options/instructions.
Thanks!! DH is a bit nervous because he doesn't want to be the "problem" ~ I reassured him that there are plenty of easy changes he can do to make things better if needed.

The first time because my RE didn't take DHs insurance he had to go to a lab his insurance covered. Once DH switched to a different insurance that my RE took he only wanted it done at the office and not at home.

My DH did his at home and I drove it to the RE's lab. You have to make it within 30-45 minutes and keep it warm. I drove with it between my legs - lovely.
You should ask your RE's office because they did tell us that if we took the sample elsewhere for testing and it wasn't normal, he would have to do it there anyway. So it was worth driving it to RE's lab which is about 40 minutes away.
My clinic gives you the option for a home produced sample or in the clinic, but it seems like they really prefer it to happen in the clinic. Luckily, DH was a good sport and went to the clinic for both SAs.
my DH's SA #'s have been better with the ones produced at home. He's more relaxed, no pressure (i.e., list of men waiting to use "the room", DH is way creeped out about that) and the lab is indifferent, which is particularly good for the days of the IUIs, I just take it with me (in my armpit).
TTC since July 2007
a year on our own, 7 IUIs spread out over 2 years, all BFN
IVF attempt #1 - September - antagonist protocol, called off CD8 due too poor response
IVF attempt #2 - November - called off on CD11 due to low estrogen
IVF attempt #3 - started stims Jan 25th...converted/cancelled Jan 31st...SWITCHED BACK TO IVF Feb 3rd!
ER Feb 7th...lets DO this!
ET Feb 12th, Beta #1 141, Beta #2 356, u/s #1 hb 141 bpm, u/s at 7 weeks 1 day no hb, missed m/c. So sad.
IVF #4 scheduled for June 2011, last chance, this is it
I was not told to keep it "warm". However, I've heard other friends be instructed to do so. I believe I tossed it in my purse and drove over to drop it off.

Well hopefully he's not the problem, but it is better to find out early in the game, rather than after a lot of failed (expensive) cycles! Good luck with the test. Even if it isn't great- it doesn't have to be the end of the road!
And really- for most men that is the only test they have to do!
