I know Mont. Cty Comm College offers both knitting and crocheting classes during this current semester (see continuing education). I'm going to look into it next winter (if I'm up to it).
I know some of the local Michael's and ACMoore stores offer classses too.
I know Joanne's has classes. I found a lady in Delco who offers classes and happened to find her around the time she offered both a beginners knitting and beginner crochet class so I took both. I am not sure when she will offer the beginner ones again since she seems to rotate classes. I remember just from a google search finding local yarn shops that offered classes, so maybe if you do that you can find some. I can't remember any I found ,but I think one was in Swarthmore.
Is crocheting/knitting really such a lost art out here? I learned to crochet at 14 years of age (if not younger). I would ask around church groups or others that you know. Someone might be willing to teach you how.
AC Moore's class is $8 per session. You sign up for the ones you want to go to in advance but they have them weekly. There is a teacher there who walks around and does one on one with you so it's not a structured, taught class like the other ones might be. I am pretty sure they only have crocheting (at least at the Montgomeryville location).
