This Is Why I Hate Brushing My Teeth....

... my gums bleed. They never have before I got pregnant. Anyone know how to make it stop?

  • If you find out how to make it stop, please let me know. It sucks, I knowSad

  • From what I've read, this is very, very common. Just keep brushing, and flossing. After *every* meal. And see your Dentist!

I just found out that our dental insurance, after Jan first, is actually paying for THREE dental cleanings a year for pregnant women, and I am definitely taking them up on this. Oral health is very important!

  • Its normal and unfortunately nothing stops it. I got used to brushing my teeth and then my mouth tasting like I was a just fed vampire
  • Most likely just the hormones causing the inflamation.  Just keep up with daily flossing and make sure you are brushing well along the gumline(but not too hard).  If your gums are extra sensitive try an extra soft toothbrush.  They are hard to find at the store but your dentist may have some in stock.  Rember to keep flossing and brushing well even though it bleeds.
  • I'm a dental hygienist so I feel the need to inform you about Pregnancy Gingivitis.  Here's the scoop...it's most likely your hormones.  If you had even the slightest of gingivitis prepregnancy, then it is even worse now.  Your best bet is to brush twice a day and floss as much as you can (at least once a day).  Also, visit your dentist and have a cleaning (by someone like me :} ).  You can't floss and brush everything thing away and that's why it's imperative to see your hygienist.  I see this often with my preggo patients, some women it just effects more than others.  Hope this helps  :)

Yep, had it happen with DS1 and this one.  Only way to make it stop is to give birth.  GL!

Ha ha. I think I'll deal with it for the next 3 months.

  • My mom is a dentist and she said it's one of the "joys" of pregnancy.
  • This just started happening to me this week. Is it common for it to start during 2nd tri, or is this a cause for concern?
