So I was spotting over the weekend and on Monday the doctor said everything looked fine but that she wanted me to have an ultra sound done just to be sure.
I went today and did not have such a great experience. The tech said absolutely nothing to me the entire time. I couldn't even see the screen half the time. When I did I saw an empty sack (maybe a tiny dot in there) and asked her what it was. She said it is the gestational sack. I then asked her if that is how tell the dates to which she said yes and nothing else.
After about 10 more minutes of silence she tells me to get dressed and that I am done. When I asked her how everything looked she said she can't say anything to me at all. I said, well, I know you can't diagnose but do you think I have anything to be concerned about, I don't see my Doctor for 4 weeks. Still, nothing, just nope, can't tell ya.
So I left there completely paranoid that something is wrong. I called my doctor's office to see if they could find anything out but I still have not heard back from them.
I am very annoyed and upset right now. Surely there is a way that you can reassure someone without diagnosing anything. Or at least say, you did great in a positive attitude that doesn't have me freaking out. Or, God forbid, there IS something wrong, advise me to contact my doctor soon or SOMETHING!
Sorry for the long vent... just not really sure what to do. Any of you had this experience? What did your 7/8 week u/s look like?
Re: Expecting the Worst (long)
That is BS....and exactly what the tech told me when i had huge clusters of cysts all over my ovaries and when i had a cyst in my breast. They know what it is so why the F* don't they say anything?
I am sorry you have to deal with this. I would call the doc if I were you.
GL
I'm sorry you're going through this... maybe your days are off and you're not actually 7 weeks along, which may explain the empty sac?
At 6.5 weeks, I was able to see the heartbeat and a little blob (shaped like a bean) that was the baby. I hope everything turns out ok for you.
I'd be on the phone or up at your doc's office till you get answers.
BTW- we have the same due date!!
I'm sorry you're going through this and truly hope and pray that is not bad news and both you and baby are fine.
I understand your frustration but u/s tech's are not allowed to make any comments on anything. The doctors who 'read' and interpret ultrasounds go through alot of schooling to be able to do what they do and an u/s tech just doesn't have the qualifications to make any sort of judgment whatsoever.
Hopefully you'll hear from the dr soon.
This is why I am upset. Not because she couldn't tell me anything but because her attitude was neither positive or negative (concerning). As I said before, there is a certain bedside manner in which you need to have when dealing with these types of situations and when you don't have it your patient leaves freaking out that something is wrong....
I did call the Dr, waiting for them to call me back.

ugh! I'm glad you called your doctor. If you saw a sac and little line (blob) you are most likely okay. You can typically see a heartbeat during your 6th week but since the tech was rude and didn't point anything out to you, you could have easily missed it or didn't see it at all. Try to relax. Your baby needs positive thoughts from you right now.
On a side note, I grew up in Ventura! I now live in the bay area but I miss it there sometimes.
Hang in there! If you have to... call the doctor again and again until he/she calls you back. You can be a thorn in their side... it's okay.
I would find it very hard to believe they would let you leave the office if something was wrong. Maybe I'm wrong but my Dr's office wouldn't let me go, even if my Dr wasn't in they would have found another doctor.
Hope everything turns out ok!
This. This is true of any sort of tech - respiratory, radiology, etc. It's a huge liability if they tell you something and the doc tells you something different.
I totally understand that the techs can't say anything. However, you can still be positive and say have a great day or how are you feeling or are you excited? Any of these would have been reassuring without "telling" me anything. I don't know, I think I am just a paranoid mess.
And, as the time goes by, and three calls to the doctor's office later, I am wondering if I am even going to hear back from them today.
Damn these hormones!! >: P
sorry for your less than stellar experience today. i know it's scary and it sucks to wait. i hope your doc calls you back with good news soon.
as far as measuring behind, do you know when you ovulated? you could have also implanted late. and ultrasounds are accurate with growth rates within up to 3 days (someone once told me 10, but i found 3 to be the more popular answer). and not to mention, some pregnancies may just start out a little slower than others. fwiw, i'm also measuring about a week behind.
hang in there hon. keep us updated.
