3rd Trimester

Does anyone else have to wait to set up a nursery?

Dh is in the military and we are moving when I am around 34 weeks pregnant.  So, I won't be able to set up the nursery until we move.  Although it is not a big deal, I am still bummed that I can't do anything to prepare for LO before then.  Does anyone else have to wait to set up the nursery?  If so, what are you doing in the mean time to prepare?

  • Yes, our house isn't ready.  I'm not doing anything.  I don't figure it will take more than a few hours.  Maybe I'm wrong?

  • I didn't have to wait ... I just procrastinated.  :)  Good luck!
  • We won't really have a nursery either.  We need to sell our house and purchase another one with an extra bedroom.  Baby will be in our room in a bassinet for the first 3 months or so anyway.  However, we are setting the crib up on our large landing area.  DH still needs to paint the room before we can set anything up.  I took the wallpaper off and primed it last spring.

  • I have to wait our nursery is not built yet. it will not be done until after LO is here. Basically i wash all the clothes and set up the pack and play. That's all i can do.
  • Ugh... We are still waiting to close on our house, and it might not happen until mid December!
  • PLUS... our furniture is sitting at Buy Buy Baby!!!!
  • Yep. The crib is going in our room until we sell our house, we're not even at the point to put it on the market. So we'll have a nursery HOPEFULLY this time next fall. Yikes.

  • We couldn't start putting ours together until this past weekend because we had the (disgusting) carpet pulled out and laminate installed in 75% of our house, so setting up the baby furniture would just lead to more mess on them and more to move.  I feel REALLY behind and there wasn't much I could do to prepare.  Hopefully, our LO will wait a few more weeks for us to be ready. :)

We just ordered the furniture this weekend and are hoping it will be in before Thanksgiving (I'l be 34 weeks then) so we can start setting up.

  • Right now the nursery is my DDs room and we are almost finished with her new "big girl room" so as soon as that's done, we can get everything put in for the baby. I'm hoping we're done by Thanksgiving weekend. I'll be 36 weeks then.
  • We waited with our first because we were moving on base. This time around, just procrastinating. Stick out tongue

  • I don't have to wait, I just think its kind of pointless to have all the stuff up collecting dust for months before baby even gets here. So I'm waiting til about 35 weeks before starting anything, the world wont end if I go into labor and the crib isn't up yet.
  • I have to wait because I am on bed rest.  Ours probably won't even be finished before we bring her home unless I do some serious cheating.  DH is supposed to finish painting the room this week, but there is still a LOT that needs to be done that only I can do.  And even some shopping that still needs to be done and that is certainly against the rules.  Dr has already told me that if he finds out that I am not sticking to bed rest at home, he'll put me in the hospital until LO's arrival.  I'm not going to risk that!!

  • At 34 weeks you will still have plenty of time. We're just getting started on ours now (no reason for the wait, we just didn't get to it earlier).

  • I have to wait because, we are turning the attic into an office and the office will become the nursery. I am also on bed rest so I can't help with the renovations.

  • We are also military and will be moving into a bigger place the first of December. I'm not worried about it at all since that is still plenty of time to get everything done.
  • You'll be fine.  We painted, but then have to move everything out of the nursery, because family will be staying with us until LO is about 3-4weeks old.  LO has a little corner in our room with just a bassinet.

Just make sure you've ordered anything that takes a while, pick out your paint colors, etc.

  • My DH is also in the military and since we'll be moving at the beg. of Feb. and having company here right after LO is born, we decided not to bother getting furniture or setting up a nursery  since we have no idea how big our next place will be yet.  We have a pack and play with a bassinet for LO after he's born and that will stay in our room but that's pretty much all we have.  It sucks not to be able to have a nice room all put together for him but I figure it will give me something else to look forward to after the move - either that or it will end up being a big source of frustration after we move! LOL
  • I'm 34 weeks now and we just began this past weekend... don't worry, you'll have plenty of time!

  • DS was born 7 weeks early. I had order my furniture but it had not come in yet. We were in the middle of remodeling our house. His room was put together by the time he came home from the hospital with a lot of help from family and friends but there was no rush since he slept in our room for 4 months.

  • I actually wish I would have waited.  It's making me feel impatient.  It's like putting up a Christmas tree three months early!

  • Yes, we're currently selling our house and haven't picked out a new one. Until we move into a new house there will be no nursery. Drives me insane!

  • We are moving at 33 weeks, so I can do nothing until then! It does drive me a little nuts.
