Re: Anyone forgo the Hep B vac?

  • We opted to not get it....he still hasn't. Our ped said it isn't necessary until we travel abroad or something. Plus, no one in our family has it.

In the beginning....we just did two vaccines every month, instead of all four every other. We felt it was important for him to get these newborn vaccines...so we didn't ignore them. But we also think 4 shots is way to many to do at once.

We're holding off for a while now. And are delaying the MMR until at least 4yo.

  • Our school districts require it for K, so I figure we should get it done before he can object! We decided to waive it in the hospital just because he was so new and littleBig Smile.
  • We had them do it as the hospital.

  • We refused it at the hospital- I think it might be NYS policy to have them give one at birth.  We had to sign a consent form at the hospital when I was in labor to refuse the Hep B.
  • we skipped it at birth, DD will get it later.
  • He got it at the hospital in Ohio...it's not just a NYS thing :)
  • Yep - it's the policy but it isn't mandatory. The vitamin K (?) ointment in the eyes, however IS mandatory.
  • We skipped it at the hospital, but had to get it at 2 months- mandatory for daycare :(

  • We did get it at birth but it is one we thought about long and hard.  And it's not really the pediatrician who will be giving it to him, it'll be the hospital nurses.  But it is definitely important to go over vaccines with pediatricians.  Some offices or doctors in particular can refuse to accept a patient if the parents aren't willing to vaccinate or agree to their schedule of vaccinations.  I really appreciate that our pediatrician doesn't constantly ask us to vaccinate the kids at each visit, that's really annoying!  We vaccinate the generals but we have our own schedule that he respects.
