I'm a healthy 20 yr old and my husband and I are trying to conceive. We have been trying for about 4 months and were thinking that my hypothyroidism is a cause of no success. I have been on medications for it for 6 years so it is pretty leveled out. Does anyone else have this disease or know anything about having it and getting pregnant??
Re: Trying to conceive...help
This....and...
I would get an appointment with your OBGYN or family doctor to discuss if this could be the issue!
From what I understand, if you have hypothyroidism, you may have abit of trouble TTC quickly, BUT there are 3 people that I know that have it, and they were all able to conceive within the 2nd try. Go figure, lol. If you think there might be a problem, it doesn't hurt to go see your doc, although most docs will not think that trying for 5 months is a problem yet. I know its frustrating, though.
if your levels are fine with medication - then it shouldn't be an issue.
I've had hypothyroid for 11 years now, and it in no way affected our ability to get pregnant (we had other issues like slow sperm)
you've only been trying 4 months. Please realize that it can (and sometimes does) take normal healthy couples up to a year to conceive. I've seen several cycle 11 pregnancies on these boards in my time. You only have roughly a 20% chance each month with perfect timing.
Hang in there.

I think I might actually have this - but I keep putting off the blood test to confirm. My Dr did say that thyroid problems can affect fertility but that when controlled with meds it should cause any drama.
GL to you. Perhaps I should have the damn test...
I agree with them. GL!
Hi there,
I asked something very similar yesterday, I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was wondering the same thing (but havent been able to talk w/my doctor yet) My levels are still not regulated yet but the consensus of what most people said was that it didnt seem to affect too much but may if your levels are not in normal range, you can also see my post a few pages down (hypothyroidism) good luck to you..
All of this !
I also have it and my doc said that as long as my levels are in check, it shouldn't be a problem
"Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all." -- Dale Carnegie
"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time." --Thomas A. Edison
Why would you put it off? Not only can thyroid problems affect fertility but can be harmful to the fetus during the pregnancy.
I wouldn't mess around with a thyroid problem.
