I just heard on the news that a pregnant lady - 38wks just passed about a week ago because of the swine flu, her baby was delivered healtht after an emergency c/s but she didnt make it, she had symptoms but never though she would get it, she didnt get the flu shot either...i know this post isnt a possitive one but its so alarming when it happens in your own county...i hope and will pray for everyones health, and take care.
Re: h1n1 tragic death in my county..she was 38wks
You say she had symptoms. Do you know if she ever went in to get treated?
It amazes me how many people who didn't get shots, have symptoms and don't go to the doctor.
I was wondering this same thing myself. Way to upset people unnecessarily.

This. And FWIW the OP lives in San Diego, one of the most populous areas. We hear about this in NY but we don't get scared. When your city has 8 million people, a one in a million news story will happen eight times over.

I agree.
Exactly. This is why everybody is freaking out about H1N1--these stories are rare, but the media is all over them, never once discussing the fact that thousands of people have managed to survice H1N1.

I am not positive....but the pg woman I heard of dying last week was 39 years old with underlying health conditions, which led to complications from H1N1. It is so sad and yes, very scary...but I like to believe that it was a very rare situation.
And yes, SD is huge and we have TONS of H1N1 going around...it has been around here since April 09 and this is the first pregnant related death that I have heard of in our area.
My heart breaks for her family.
I agree with PP. It is tragic that the mother died. The stories we hear about are from the media jumping all over them. There are some cases that they say the cause was H1N1 but that is usually just the start of something else like pneumonia. The patient also most of the time has another health condition that the hospital does not disclose to the media, usually at the request of the family.
The shot, as well, is not easy to find and get either. Even for pregnant women.
I saw that too. Poor family.
What part of SD do you live in?
This is why I got the H1N1 shot! Very sad story.
That's good. Unfortunately it's impossible to find here - I've called my dr., my son's pedi, etc. There have been county supplied shots, but people just get turned away as the the supply runs out. It's infuriating that the CDC puts pregnant women at highest risk, yet we can't get a f'in shot. I have no idea why this wasn't distributed to OBGYNs, if that is indeed the case.
This. A lady died in my county too--only the news is all about how it was H1N1--technically that's not what she died of. She had severe asthma before contracting the flu and she died from that.
This is sad and it could help some but really why do people like to post things about "here's how this pregnant lady died" and "I know you all eat lunch meat but a friend of a friend of a friend lost her baby because of it"
was it necessary to inform of this? Do you like to have your fellow bumpies worry extra??
Same in Minneapolis. Very frustrating!
