I'm fascinated with your ears now. Creepy right? I've never know of anyone who has had eardrums rupture before, expect my husband oddly enough.
Do you have any issues after they've healed? I hear my eustachian tubes open/close every single time I swallow. I've learned to tune it out for the most part but sometimes it makes me want to pull my hair out. My husband has perma-tinnitus in the one that ruptured for him.
I suspect my drums didn't heal properly. I was in Mexico and couldn't get to a real Dr. for about 5 days after it happened. By the time I did my GP sent me to an ENT because they had already started to heal. It's been 6 years, no sign of improvement.
Re: pkate
Yeah, I had a ton of ear infections when I was little which led to tubes in my ears. It was summer while the tubes were in my ears, so I had to put silly putty or wax in my ears so I could swim. Turned out that little pieces of wax and silly putty broke off and got stuck way down inside my ear. I had to have surgery when I was little to have it removed. Years later, I go to get scuba certified and find out that I have trouble equalizing the pressure in my ears - takes me twice as long as everyone else. I burst one ear drum on my check out dive - felt good when it happened going down, but my ears ached when I came back up for sure! Since then, my ear drums will burst if I'm not super careful diving - and they have burst on a plane before when I was pretty congested.
Whenever I've gone to an ENT, they just give me antibiotics (in case of infection) and send me home.... so I've learned to live with it.
And there is my "book" LOL!!
Ya, my "superstar fabulous ENT" told me to take Sudafed. Uh, thanks doctor. How about we fix the reason for the fluid backup instead of just putting a gold star on my forehead and patting me on the head. It's like they want to see me 5 times before they'll believe me.
I only had the one incident, it was both ears. I still curse that damn trip to this day. F-ing Mexico.
