Anyone NOT getting a NT Scan?

I didn't do it with my DD and I don't really want to get one with this pregnancy either. My doctors office doesn't require one. I don't even remember it being an option with my first and that was only 2 years ago. I just keep seeing posts about it on here. Anyone not getting one?

  • We aren't getting one.

  • We had one with our first but will not be getting one for this pregnancy!
  • I'm not.

We don't have maternity insurance (there was a year long waiting period and our surprise BFP came just a little earlier) so EVVVEEERRRYYYTHING is out of pocket. It gets really expensive, and an NT scan is an unnecessary u/s and tests for me. Even if I had insurance though, I probably wouldn't get it, but can understand why others would.

  • it wasn't covered by my insurance and i didn't want one either way. When my Dr. brought it up i just said no thanks.
  • I am not.  My insurance doesn't cover it.  But I wouldn't do it even if they did.  I did not do it with DD either.

  • Nope, not me either.

  • We didnt with DD

I am not sure with this one, I might because I took a proj shot at OB to bring on my period and got a BFP a few days later- there are slight birth defect risks because of that.

But it wouldnt really determine anything by the NT-Scan I mean just get us ready if there is something we need to be ready for

but then again I think it causes more stress then good too so we might just skip it.

  • We are not.   Went back and forth with the idea, but we decided not to.
  • We are, since it's not invasive and I am older.  We figure if we can get a heads up on any problems, then great.  We do NOT plan on going further with cvs or amnio.

  • I'm curious why you wouldn't, besides not being covered by insurance? Don't you have to then get the quad test that has a high false positive? I would never even consider terminating if we found out something was wrong, but why not be fully prepared? I can't think of one reason not to do it..
  • We are not also, my insurance does not cover it. We are getting a Level 2 ultrasound at 18 weeks because of a family history of spina bifida and the insurance covers that.

We also want to keep the # of ultrasounds to an absolute minimum. Although it has been so fun to see everyone else's pics!?

  • We are not planning on it.

ETA: And to answer the question of the person who can't think of any reason not to get one, there are several. Insurance doesn't always cover it. Also, it can cause worry and stress. We would not terminate based on the results and I'd rather deal with any problems as they come up rather than looking for problems.  Plus the test measures your chance of having a problem, it does not give a definite answer. You'd have to have an amnio to get a definite answer and that comes with risks I don't want to take, so I'd rather just enjoy my pregnancy and have my baby and if there are problems, deal with them then.  It isn't like it tests for a condition you can treat for.

  • I did not get one.

All of my blood work came back fine, and I'm not for doing a bunch of procedures for the heck of it. The oddsd were REALLY low that something was wrong, and we would find out about 6 weeks later, anyway, at our one and only u/s.

  • We are not doing any optional testing. My sister had one and the docs had her convinced that her daughter had Trisomy 18. She's as perfect as she could be.
  • I didn't with DD, doubt I will this time either.

  • I didn't with DD and will not be getting one with this pregnancy either.
  • I didn't with DS and I'm not planning on doing it with this one either. It has a high false positive rate (I think) and it'll only cause more worry. I'd rather wait and have everything looked at on the 20wk u/s.
