Pregnant after 35

2nd tri screen results and team..... (long post)

Ok, so first of all I need to change my screen name to hoping45 (just had my bday on Saturday:) just not sure how....

Anyway, my second tri screen came back better than my first, so we have decided no amnio.  With a 1 in 6200 chance for downs and a 1 in 500 chance of a miscarriage due to amnio(my dr's numbers) we are taking the chance that all is ok.  Thanks to everyone who weighed in to help with this decision.

Also, I am on Team BLUE!!!  I had stayed solidly on Team Green until today, once I knew everything was ok, we decided to find out.  I have felt it was a boy since the beginning, but today confirmed, very happy and excited.

Only cloud today was he found 2 fibroids, one the size of an egg, one the size of an apple.....I guess even though it feels like I have had 100 ultrasounds in the past 2 years, these haven't shown up until now.  They may be growing because of the estrogen.   They are located outside the uterus, so should not impact the baby.

What my dr. basically said was that if we do a planned c-section, he can remove the fibroids at the same time and it should all be fine.

I am ok with that, as I told him, I just want a healthy baby.  Any fibroid stories would be welcomed.

The miracle continues and I am so glad I have all of you to share the news with.....Happy Monday!

  • Congratulations! On healthy baby. And for a BOY! So exciting.

IMO - I wouldn't talk planned c-section just for fibroids. Is that the only reason he brought it up? My Peri and my OB both have said that if fibroids don't bother a woman, there is NO reason to remove them.  I mean, if you were having serious bleeding with periods, or lots of chronic pain it might be something to consider. Doesn't sound like that's the case with you. Also, since yours are on the outside of your uterus, there is no way for them to interfere with delivery.  Sometimes if they are low in the uterus, they can block the "exit".

Just my back story...  I have huge fibroids. All growing with this pregnancy. 13 cm, 8 cm. and 5 cm. We are all hoping for a vaginal birth and they won't remove them EVEN if I have a c-section.

  • Congratulations on everything turning out perfect!
  • thanks for the reply and yes, the fibroids are the main reason, plus the fact that at 45, i have a 30% chance of ending up with a c-section anyway....i have time to make the decision and really, really appreciate the input!

It freaked me out today when he found them on the ultrasound.

    Thanks!!

  • That's great news about your baby boy!

I have seven fibroids, all inside my uterus, so they will very likely interfere with my baby's growth and delivery -- they are currently growing, and two are located near my cervix.  My peri says that by the end of this month she should be able to tell if the placenta is attached to a fibroid, so we will know if we can rule out two of the (worst) possibilities.  I have an appt with her tomorrow, so I am feeling a little anxious..... I posted my fibroid story a while back -- here is the link.

My OB says she does not plan to remove any fibroids if I have a c-section b/c it could cause blood loss and complications.  She said after the PG, they should shrink back to normal and that there is no need to get them removed before my next PG if they don't cause too many complications this PG.  So, we are in a wait-and-see situation right now.
