Do you stick to the CDC recommended vaccine schedule? Or does anyone do a delayed schedule or not vaccinate? We had wanted to do a delayed schedule before LO was born, but since he was premature I am reconsidering. I'm just wondering if anyone has made this work or talked to their pediatricans about it. TIA!

Re: Vaccinations
Robbie was still in the NICU for his 2 month shots and the NICU split them over a couple of days just as SOP. We delayed them a bit until he was 4lb because he was *SO* teeny. Which has put us a month behind on all of them.
Anyway, his 4 month shots (given at 5 months) were all at once and he had a pretty bad reaction. (highish fever, lots of stomach pain etc)
So his 6 month shots I had split again (two weeks apart.)
His next ones I did together and he did fine, so we'll probably stay on schedule from here on out.
My Blog
Her 2 month shots were done in the NICU when she was around 3 months old (they were delayed due to a round of IV steroids--you have to wait I think 10-14 days after steroids to administer any kind of vaccine since steroids suppress the immune system or something like that). she had all 5 shots (DTAP, polio, Hep B, pneumococcal, & HIB) & did totally fine. her 4 month shots were just done on Friday--she was about 5.5 months old. we only did DTAP, pneumo., & HIB (after lots and lots of research & a chat with Dr. Sears, we decided to hold off on polio & Hep B for now since they are not very important at this point). she did great--a little tired & crabby that evening but the next day she was back to her crazy self).
she also gets her monthly synagis shots, so it's ALOT of shots. she was too old for rotavirus (they do not give the shot in the NICU & the first shot must be administered by the time they are 15 weeks old & she had just been discharged from the NICU at that point so we did not bother).
I have put alot of time into researching what i think is right for stella & our family. we are following a delayed & selective schedule at this point. it's hard to figure out what is best for your child. I would just do some research & then follow your instincts. if you can get them while he is still in the NICU, that is the best thing possible. good luck!
We did a modified schedule starting at their adjusted age. We used Dr. Sear's schedule in the Vaccine Book. They get no more than 2 vaccines per time and only one live virus. This required me to take them to the doctor in-between well-baby visits - the visits were free of charge.
This has worked great for us. But, my two are not in daycare and they were given breastmilk until 14 mos old. Dr. Sear's is very adament that if you decide to do an alternate schedule or not vaccinate that you also have to take other precautions. My babies will be completely vaccinated, but we're just doing it slower. I feel most comfortable with this schedule.
We've done almost all her shots on schedule. I did delay one booster shot 4 weeks once, but other than that she has gotten all her scheduled shots pretty much the day she was eligible to do so.
The reason I delayed one booster shot is because I had a maximum shot number of 6 in one visit. No scientific reason for it, just that was my personal limit for her. We reached that limit at her 6 month appt because of synagis and flu shots in addition to the CDC recommended 6 month shots. So we got the booster along with her flu shot booster and next synagis shot one month later.
If it hadn't been for the fact we were going to go in a month later for her next synagis shot and flu shot booster I might have had her get all 7 shots at once. I try to avoid the pedi office as much as possible. I see it as ground zero for childhood communicable diseases and I prefer to keep both her and myself away from there as much as possible.
