Baths?

I haven't been taking any baths since I found out, if I do it isn't very warm and I don't fill the tub up past my belly. I have heard it is okay to take hot baths, but I have also heard it isn't okay at all. I heard nothing above 100 degrees, which at first you think is hot....but i took a temp of the water to make sure not above 100 it felt freezing at 100.2. I'm just wondering what your doctors have said or what you are doing. Im dying to take some baths...hoping to make myself feel better or make my boobs stop hurting.

Re: Baths?

  • My nurse said baths are fine as long as it isn't warmer then 101 degrees.

    This, exactly.
  • Today I had my first appt. I was kind of worried about that because I love taking hot baths, so this past week I have been making sure the water wasn't too hot. Well before I could even ask my NP, she said I could take hot baths and showers, but that I couldn't go in hot tubs. So, i'm pretty much not going to worry about it :)
  • I've heard pretty much the same thing.  I guess the reason is that the hot water could raise your body temp and that's not good for the baby.

  • I love taking really hot baths and I miss them so much!!! Warm baths are not the same!
  • I take hot baths... sometimes it is the only thing that makes me feel better after a day of m/s or soreness or a bad cold.. etc... I just don't stay in too long... try not to get to the point where I start to feel really hot (core body temp)
  • I take a bath probably once a day or once every other day.... I love them and they help my m/s so whatever works!
  • My OB said that if your skin turns red, it is too hot.  I don't really take baths very often, but I do get in our hot tub set at a warm bath temp of around 96 degrees (which feels pretty warm when it is cool outside).
  • My doctor has said no - only showers. Boo hiss!

  • My MW recommends warm baths to relieve cramping/back pain/headaches/pretty much everything else.  She gave the same advice as pp mentioned about your skin turning red meaning it's too hot.  That, or if you begin to feel overheated.  Hot tubs are off limits because they raise your body temp too much, but a nice bath is just fine.
