Babies: 9 - 12 Months

If your baby had H1N1

what were the symptoms?

My sitter is FREAKING ME OUT.  One of the other kid's brothers (who doesn't go to DC) had it a couple weeks ago.  PJ has a fever (101) that came down with tylenol, he's not coughing or wheezing, and he's sleeping, eating and in a general good mood.  But she said that if its H1N1 he needs the meds in the first 48 hours and now I am freaking out.  I called the pedi and the nurse said nothing about it at all and said since he's sleeping and eating okay, and the fever is coming down, to keep an eye on him for the next 24 hour and call again if anything changes...help.

Re: If your baby had H1N1

  • Started with a cough. High fever 103 hit 24 hours later. Got on Tamiflu. Vomiting started later that evening...it was all over in 5 days and she was never lethargic.

  • High fever first, cough & runny nose started about 24 hrs later. It was over in 5 days. No puking or anything.

She also was not given tamiflu, the docs @ my hospital don't use it (I had H1N1 first and I wasn't even offered it) because -they say- at MOST it reduces the symptoms by 1 or 2 days and it has bad side effects (I never bothered to ask what the side effects are because I knew we weren't going to be taking it anyway).

  • Who knows?  Kate got her h1n1 vax on Friday morning, had a low grade fever Friday night (thought it was a reaction to the shot), was fine Saturday, then woke up in the middle of the night on Sat/Sun with a fever of around 103, was lethargic and didn't eat much most of the day.  She's feeling a little better today and her appetite is back.  No vomitting or diarrhea, but she does have a "wet" sounding cough.  I have no plans on taking her to the ped.
  • Woke up Sunday morning with a cough, and by that night he had a 102-103 fever. I gave him some tylenol and put him to bed. All night long he was coughing really bad. I made him an appt with the pedi in the morning, and a few minutes later, he threw up everywhere. He then started to get a runny nose. He was tested and it was confirmed that it was H1N1. All together, he was sick for about a week and a half. There wasn't any tamiflu around here, so we had to just kind of wait it out.
