OhH interesting SVU!

I have been watching Law & Order SVU Season 10 and thought I was going to lose it this episode because a baby girl died. Basically, a one year old little girl died and they thought the mom did it but an autopsy showed she had measles. They traced it back to the city park where a mom had her unvaccinated child there -- who happened to have measles -- and he passed it to a few babies who had yet to have the MMR vaccines. The family is suing the city since this child put so many people at risk, and they even arrested the boys mother!

They are saying her negligence caused the death of another child.

I saw that one. Interestingly, it first aired around the time there was a cluster of measles outbreaks in New York (the Bronx, I think it was).

Negligent for bringing her child out with measels, that's for sure. The thing about being unvaccinated- if any of our kids contracted measles before they get the booster (at what 4?), they would be listed as "unvaccinated".

DH and I LOVE Law & Order: SVU! We got into a pretty big debate over this one, actually. I could see the non-vaccinated mother's point of view but DH thought she should be held responsible.

Real life examples of this happening here. The part about the one kid infecting three others who happened to be sitting in the same pedi waiting room scares the sh!t out of me.

Did they change things? I had the measles as a baby because I was one of those babies that always seemed to have a cold and they would not give me the shots if I was sick. My records read "diseased" in the place of where the date of vaccination should be.

And OMG I know about the waiting room thing. That was actually what I was referring to above--that's how the measles outbreak happened in NY.

Crazy! Our Pedi has a Well Child entrance/waiting room and a Sick Child entrance/waiting room but if it is in the incubation period I guess they would never know they are sick.

Our pedi's office has the same thing, and not to freak you out, but they most likely don't have sick child vs. well child rooms in terms of where you are actually seen by the dr/nurse. I think you can only keep them so separate. Boo.
