Nurseries and Baby Gear

Would you paint/refinish a crib?

Something about the idea makes me think there might be safety concerns.  Anyone know or have any thoughts on the matter?

DH's parents bought us two cribs from when I was pregnant before. . . unfortunately they never got to be used, so they're brand new, and I *think* I'd like to be able to use one of them if/when we set up the nursery this time around. . . only problem is they were supposed to be white, but they're actually very cream colored.

Do you think it'd be okay to paint/refinish it so that it's white?

  • My parents still have the crib that I slept in 26 years ago.  My dad stripped it and painted it white. It is in great condition and my neice and DS sleep in it at their house.

You may need to sand it some to make the paint adhere to the wood, but I would think it would be fine.

DS has a white crib and with teething he has taken some paint off of it.  I will probably touch up the spots with paint before another baby uses it.

  • Go to Home Depot or somewhere and ask if they have paints safe for this.  You have to be ready for your baby to chew on your crib at some point so as long as the paint is non toxic it should be fine.
