Success after IF

Working moms (esp if BFing & solid-feeding)

What's your morning routine like?  (this is assuming that your DH/SO works too, during the same general timeframe.)

Since DH started a new job today, he's no longer able to spend mornings w/ Cal, which means Cal is now spending a full day at his babysitter's.  Today was our first morning on the new schedule and it was a little crazy.  I hope to have worked out the kinks by the end of the week.  Just curious how you work in nursing, breakfast, and getting everyone ready and out the door on time.  Do you ever have to wake up LO?

Poor Cal...not only was the routine new but he ate breakfast a lot earlier than usual, because we're finally going to add a 3rd meal and have decided to do breakfast & dinner @ home, and just lunch at the babysitter's.

Re: Working moms (esp if BFing & solid-feeding)

  • DS has gonme to daycare since 12 weeks.  I wake up at 5:30 to get myself ready and wake him at 6.  Now he gets whole milk but before he got formula or breastfed at that time.  At 6:30 I get him ready and we aer out the door at 7.  He usually gets breakfeast at daycare.

If it is a morning where I do not have to be in until later, like today, he gets milk when he wakes up (about 6:45) and a waffle at about 7:30.

It definitely takes some time getting into a routine but it is not so bad when you do.  Good Luck!

  • I have to wake both my kids up. I get up and shower at 6, then wake W up to nurse at 6:30.  He gets a handful of cheerios in his high chair around 7 while DD eats.

They feed him some fruit around 9 am at school, then he gets lunch at 11:30. So his 'breakfast' is sort of spread out through the morning.

Can daycare do breakfast for you?  It does get easier once they self-feed, both kids eat while I eat, but I know when he was on cereal I just let daycare do it.

  • I'm sorry about having to go full time at the sitters, but hopefully everything will work out and you won't even know the difference :)

Here's what we started last week...but we do breakfast and lunch at daycare. He seems to be waking on his own around 6am.  Sometimes we move up the schedule half an hour if he wakes any earlier than 6am.

    6:00/30am- wake and nurse
    7:30am- leave for daycare
9:00am- fruit and oatmeal (4oz total)
    10:30am- 8oz breastmilk bottle
12:30pm- veggie and fruit (4oz total) -- new
    2:30pm- 8oz formula bottle (I don't pump enough)
4:30pm- snack and sippy with water (Cheerios or Puffs) --new
    6:00/30pm- nurse
7:00/30pm- veggie and oatmeal (4oz & soon to be veggie and meat)
    8:00/30pm- nurse to sleep

  • This is how our routine goes:

6:00AM - Both DH and I get up, DH gets in the shower and gets dressed, I go and wake up Zach and 'attempt' to nurse him.  He hasn't wanted to nurse in the mornings much at all, he seems to hold out for his rice cereal!

6:30AM - I get in the shower and DH continues getting Zach ready, gets him dressed, plays with him a bit, takes him downstairs and starts getting his bag ready for daycare.  During this time Zach sits in his high chair and munches on some cherrio's or goldfish crackers.

7:00AM  I come downstairs and get my pump bag ready for the day and all the last minute stuff, get Zach's shoes and coat on, get the car loaded up, etc.

We leave the house by 7:15AM usually.

I get Zach to daycare at 7:30AM and they usually feed him his rice cereal once he gets there.  That works out perfect for us because he just doesn't seem hungry at home, but once he sees his cereal, he gobbles it down!

At daycare he'll have his cereal first thing...and then around 9:30-10 they give him a bottle of breastmilk.  Then around lunchtime/noon he gets a bit of whatever the big kids are eating, but mashed up, like maccaroni and cheese, veggies, potatoes, etc.  and then another bottle.  Mid-afternoon he gets a jar of baby food, around 2:30 or so.  Depending on what time I pick him up, he's either just had his last of 3 bottles, or is about to have one.  The latest I pick him up is around 5:30.

It's taken us awhile to get into this routine...when we first started, we were getting up at 5:00am and barely getting work on time!

  • Thanks to all of you - this is very helpful!!

  • I'm really lucky in that DS has a really flexible job.  I have to be to work at 7 so DS usually wakes to nurse around 5 or 5:30 and then falls back to sleep.  DH then gets him all ready for daycare and drops him off around 8:30 and daycare gives him his next feeding.  Once he starts solids in a few weeks, I'm not sure how that will all work out.
